The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) conducted two intelligence-led operations along India's North-Eastern frontier in Assam and Mizoram, resulting in the seizure of 76 kg of methamphetamine tablets. Two separate operations—one intercepting a truck near the Assam-Manipur border with the assistance of the Assam Rifles, and another intercepting a car along the Aizawl–Champhai Road in Mizoram—revealed contraband concealed in specially fabricated cavities within the vehicles. Preliminary investigations indicated that drugs in the Mizoram operation were smuggled from Myanmar through the Zokhawthar–Champhai sector. Two individuals were arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, under which methamphetamine is notified as a psychotropic substance.

The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti, has urged States and Union Territories to facilitate student participation from local colleges, universities, and schools under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0. The initiative aims to strengthen field-based learning, document best practices in rural water supply, and promote innovation. States are encouraged to engage academic institutions to study and publish case studies on areas such as community participation, water quality management, and technology adoption. Additionally, the initiative suggests organizing student tours to water infrastructure sites like Water Treatment Plants and NABL-accredited laboratories, with a target of at least one student tour and one published case study per district by the end of September 2026.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah celebrated Raksha Bandhan in Ahmedabad with girls from his parliamentary constituency suffering from Type-1 diabetes. Highlighting that children with Type-1 diabetes require lifelong insulin injections which impose a significant financial burden on families, the government stated it is providing free insulin for life to such children. In the Gandhinagar parliamentary constituency, children aged 0 to 18 years with Type-1 juvenile diabetes have been ensured benefits through an integrated system covering screening, diagnosis, insulin treatment, monitoring, and follow-up.

The Central Tool Room & Training Centre (CTTC), Bhubaneswar, operating under the Ministry of MSME, conducted a four-week Summer Internship Training Programme in May and June 2026. The programme trained 8,083 engineering students from 22 States and Union Territories, as well as 26 international students from Sudan and Yemen. Spanning traditional disciplines like Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Civil, and Computer Science, alongside emerging technologies such as AI and Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, IoT, and Additive Manufacturing, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industrial practice. Additionally, CTTC Bhubaneswar contributes to aerospace and space missions by manufacturing precision components for ISRO and the Light Combat Aircraft programme.

The President of India, exercising powers conferred by the Constitution of India and after consulting the Chief Justice of India, has made appointments regarding judges in the Calcutta High Court. Shri Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury, an Additional Judge, has been appointed as a permanent Judge. Additionally, six other Additional Judges—Shri Justice Prasenjit Biswas, Shri Justice Uday Kumar, Shri Justice Ajay Kumar Gupta, Shri Justice Supratim Bhattacharya, Shri Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee, and Shri Justice Md. Shabbar Rashidi—have been appointed for a fresh term of six months effective from 31.08.2026.

Sunil Kumar K.P., belonging to the OBC Thiyya community in Kerala, transitioned from a low-paid private driver earning ₹5,000 per month to a self-employed autorickshaw owner through assistance from the National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC) Scheme. In 2022, he obtained a term loan of ₹2.69 lakh via the Kerala State Backward Classes Development Corporation (KSBCDC). This financial support enabled him to purchase an autorickshaw, raising his monthly income to approximately ₹20,000 and enhancing his family's financial stability and quality of life.

This Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment release highlights the impact of the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC) Scheme through the personal journey of Dr. Janaki Sundararajan from Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. Dr. Janaki faced financial barriers, difficulties in accessing research materials, and challenges in covering academic expenses during her Ph.D. from 2019 to 2024. After receiving a Senior Research Fellowship of ₹35,000 per month starting in September 2019 under the NFSC Scheme, she overcame financial stress, managed research-related expenses, completed her doctoral studies, and currently works as a Guest Teacher at The Gandhigram Rural Institute.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India is scheduled to hold a two-day 'Open Hearing and Camp Sitting' at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on September 2nd and 3rd, 2026. Chaired by NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian along with Members Justice (Dr.) Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi and Smt. Vijaya Bharathi Sayani, the event aims to hear cases of alleged human rights violations and bonded labour from the State. The proceedings will involve complainants, state authorities, civil society organizations, NGOs, and Human Rights Defenders, followed by discussions with senior state officers and a media briefing. The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development, has urged States and UTs to converge the works of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) SBM-(G) 2.0 under the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025. Aiming for integrated rural development, water security, and resilience, the initiative emphasizes harmonizing Viksit Gram Panchayat Plans with Village Action Plans, utilizing geospatial planning tools like Yuktdhara, and registering assets on the Viksit Bharat National Rural Infrastructure Stack.

A high-level delegation comprising representatives from the African Union Commission, six African nations (Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and Zambia), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) visited the Department of Land Resources in New Delhi to study India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in land governance. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Shri Pralhad Joshi led the Mumbai roadshow for the upcoming Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo (BRESE) 2026, scheduled for November 2–5, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The Summit will combine three global platforms: the BRE Summit & Expo, the 9th General Assembly of the International Solar Alliance, and the 4th International Conference on Green Hydrogen, drawing participants from over 75 countries. During the event, the Minister highlighted India's non-fossil-fuel capacity reaching over 300 GW, significant growths in solar and wind energy sectors, and the targets to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030 requiring over ₹30 lakh crore in investments over the next five years. The Government of Maharashtra announced its participation as a partner state in BRESE 2026.

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PM-JDY), India’s national mission for financial inclusion launched in 2014, has completed 12 years of implementation. Over this period, PM-JDY accounts have expanded significantly from 14.72 crore in 2015 to 59.09 crore as of August 19, 2026, with 32.92 crore female beneficiaries. Total deposits have surged to ₹3,16,514 crore, and 41.29 crore RuPay debit cards have been issued. The scheme provides basic savings accounts with no minimum balance requirement, accident insurance cover, overdraft facilities, and access to various social security and direct benefit transfer schemes, thereby driving broad-based economic participation and poverty reduction.

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), launched on August 28, 2014, has completed 12 years of transforming India's financial inclusion landscape. As of August 19, 2026, the total number of PMJDY accounts reached 59.09 crore, with total deposits amounting to ₹3.17 lakh crore. The initiative ensures basic bank accounts with no minimum balance requirement, free RuPay debit cards with accident insurance cover of ₹2 lakh, and an overdraft facility of up to ₹10,000. Data shows that 55.7% to 56% of account holders are women, and 77.8% to 78% of accounts are located in rural and semi-urban areas. Serving as the core of the Jan-Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile (JAM) trinity, the scheme enables direct and transparent delivery of welfare benefits to the underprivileged.

The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs announced the completion of one year of the restructured Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme, which was approved by the Union Cabinet on 27 August 2025. Originally launched on 1 June 2020, the restructured scheme extends lending up to 31 March 2030, targeting 1.15 crore street vendors. In its first post-restructuring year, 21.86 lakh loans worth ₹6,294 crore were disbursed to 10.56 lakh new beneficiaries. Key updates include the introduction of UPI-linked RuPay Credit Cards, an end-to-end Digital Lending Platform, a Vendor Migration Module, the expansion to Census Towns, the PM SVANidhi Startup Challenge, and plans for 50 Street Food Hubs. Since inception, the scheme has facilitated cumulative disbursements of ₹19,171 crore across more than 1.18 crore loans.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal concluded an official visit to Japan, engaging with government leaders, financial institutions, and business executives across Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka to accelerate bilateral economic cooperation. The visit focused on mobilizing long-term Japanese institutional capital toward the target of JPY 10 trillion in private investments over the next decade. Key highlights included discussions on resilient supply chains, manufacturing, and advanced technologies. The Minister detailed India's six-pillar semiconductor strategy at a dedicated roundtable where Japanese companies expressed interest in expanding their presence. Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare reviewed the implementation progress of key health sector initiatives announced in the Union Budget 2026-27. The review focused on expanding emergency and trauma care capacity in District Hospitals, targeting the strengthening of 160 hospitals in Phase I by March 2027. Other key projects evaluated include scaling up the allied healthcare professionals ecosystem, training 1.5 lakh multiskilled caregivers aligned with NSQF, advancing Biopharma SHAKTI and clinical trial infrastructure, establishing five Regional Medical Hubs for medical value tourism and integrative treatment, strengthening CDSCO regulatory capacity, and upgrading mental healthcare institutions such as NIMHANS-II, CIP Ranchi, and LGBRIMH Tezpur.
