The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying reported extensive interventions to boost dairy and livestock sectors. A recent ICMR study under its i‑DRONE initiative evaluated drone‑assisted transport of tuberculosis sputum samples in Yadadri‑Bhuvanagiri district, Telangana, in partnership with AIIMS Bibinagar and the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP). The median turnaround time for diagnosis fell from 15 days to 5 days, and the mean out‑of‑pocket cost for patients dropped from approximately ₹9,451 to ₹91. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (ICAR‑NIHSAD) in Bhopal has developed the country’s first indigenous live‑attenuated African Swine Fever (ASF) vaccine using a MA‑104 cell‑line‑based strain of genotype II virus. The vaccine has passed laboratory tests for sterility, safety, genetic stability, immunogenicity and protective efficacy, and has been field‑validated in partnership with the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying. It is intended for healthy pigs older than eight weeks, administered intramuscularly with a booster after 14 days. The Ministry expects the vaccine to cut pig mortality, reduce economic losses estimated at ₹276 crore in Assam and ₹982 crore in Mizoram, and lessen dependence on proprietary foreign vaccines, thereby strengthening India’s animal‑health security and supporting pig‑farmer livelihoods.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy reports that the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana has crossed 50.06 lakh households with rooftop solar installations, achieving this in just over two years versus 7.94 lakh in the preceding decade. The scheme, funded with an outlay of ₹75,021 crore, now benefits 1 lakh households every six days, with daily installations rising from 5,038 in Oct 2025 to 16,328 in July 2026. Subsidy of ₹28,024 crore has been transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer, enabling nearly 19 lakh households to receive zero electricity bills, and 14.8 GW of rooftop capacity has been commissioned.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has released India’s first fully annotated telomere‑to‑telomere (T2T) reference genome for pigeonpea (variety ‘Asha’). The 752.65 million‑base‑pair assembly (92 contigs) covers all 11 chromosomes, includes 36,557 genes and 48,008 mRNAs, and is deposited in NCBI (accession GCF_000230855.1, released 20 April 2026). The genome is intended to serve as a national resource for gene discovery, pangenome analysis and the application of molecular breeding and genome‑editing to develop climate‑resilient, high‑yielding, nutritionally enriched pigeonpea varieties, aligning with the Government’s ‘Aatmanirbharta in Pulses’ mission (2025‑31).

The Ministry of Home Affairs, through the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), has outlined a ‘Zero Tolerance’ approach to drug trafficking, detailing actions such as the release of the Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026‑2029), establishment of a 4‑tier Narco‑Coordination Centre (NCORD) and a dedicated portal, formation of Joint Coordination Committees (JCC) with multiple meetings, sensitisation of police on red‑flag indicators, joint operations with agencies like BSF, financial investigation guidelines, capacity‑building programmes with US‑DEA, international cooperation via bilateral agreements and MoUs, launch of the 24×7 MANAS helpline, and the ‘Mission Drug Free Campus’ initiative. The Vision Document also proposes dedicated Darknet and Cryptocurrency Cells, AI‑enabled analytics, and consent‑based screening in higher education institutions.

The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) is promoting the Sustainable (ZED) Certification Scheme to improve quality, productivity, safety and environmental performance of MSMEs. As of 7 July 2026, about 9.49 lakh MSMEs have registered, with over 6.67 lakh Bronze, 6,700 Silver and 4,800 Gold certifications awarded, and the scheme has disbursed more than ₹913 crore in financial support. A 100 % subsidy on certification costs, effective from 11 November 2023, is provided to women‑owned MSMEs, removing the cost barrier for women entrepreneurs. The scheme also offers up to 75 % assistance for testing/certification (max ₹50,000), up to ₹2 lakh for hand‑holding, and up to ₹3 lakh for Zero‑Effect solutions. Financial institutions and 22 states/UTs have linked incentives and concessional financing to ZED‑certified firms, enhancing their market credibility and competitiveness.

The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare is executing the Central Sector Scheme for the formation and promotion of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). Since 2020‑21, 10,000 FPOs have been created, with 6,964 having turnover up to Rs 50 Lakh, 862 between Rs 50 Lakh‑1 Crore, and 1,135 above Rs 1 Crore (2024‑25 audited data). The scheme provides up to ₹18 lakh per FPO for management and hand‑holding costs, a matching equity grant of up to ₹15 lakh, and credit guarantee facilities up to ₹2 crore. To date, ₹827.81 crore (management) and ₹631.98 crore (equity) have been released, benefitting over 65 lakh small‑holder shareholders, with many FPOs obtaining seed, pesticide and fertilizer licences and establishing processing units.

The Government has undertaken a series of interventions to accelerate economic development in Union Territories (UTs). Completed infrastructure projects such as the Yasho Bhoomi Convention Centre, Bharat Mandapam, Chenani‑Nashri Tunnel, and the Udhampur‑Srinagar‑Baramulla rail link have enhanced road, rail and air connectivity. Digital connectivity has been expanded through the CANI and KLI submarine optical‑fibre cable projects, raising bandwidth in Andaman & Nicobar Islands from 4.12 Gbps to 243 Gbps and in Lakshadweep from 1.7 Gbps to 200 Gbps. Renewable‑energy schemes like PM Surya Ghar, PM‑KUSUM and rooftop‑solar initiatives have increased clean‑power generation and created jobs. Legislative reforms comprising 19 regulations and bills have streamlined tax and labour rules, facilitating ease of doing business. Tourism schemes (Swadesh Darshan, PRASHAD) and homestay policies are being leveraged to boost livelihoods.

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 places offences against women and children in a dedicated Chapter V, giving them precedence over other crimes. The law removes earlier age‑differentiated punishments for gang‑rape, prescribing life imprisonment or death for gang‑rape of a woman below 18 years. Victim statements in rape cases must be recorded through audio‑video means, preferably by a woman magistrate, and medical reports must be submitted to the investigating officer within seven days. The Act also criminalises employing a child to commit an offence, with imprisonment of seven to ten years. These provisions aim to strengthen protection and speedy justice for women and children.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has initiated Agricultural Action Plans for Assam, Goa, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The agricultural roadmaps are being prepared jointly by ICAR, the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, ICAR institutes, state governments, state agricultural universities and experts, based on agro‑climatic regions, natural‑resource endowments, climate‑resilience, technological interventions and farmers’ needs. The roadmaps aim to enhance productivity, profitability and resource‑use efficiency, guide states in formulating annual action plans, and target outcomes such as higher farmer incomes, greater self‑sufficiency, rural employment generation and sustainable growth of agriculture. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) studied cropping patterns and groundwater data, finding a mismatch between water‑intensive crops and water availability in several states. It prepared an ‘Atlas of cropping systems in India’ and district‑specific crop plans for 14 major crops using indices such as RSI, RYI, SYI and SCSI. ICAR’s pilot project implemented location‑specific crop diversification in 47 districts and organized 457 training programmes (2023‑24 to 2025‑26) benefiting 8,749 farmers and 4,592 extension staff. The Government promotes diversification through schemes like PM‑DDKY, PMKSY (PDMC and Watershed Development Component) and NICRA, emphasizing micro‑irrigation, soil‑health management and climate‑resilient practices.

The Ministry of Finance highlighted several steps to strengthen MSME financing. SIDBI opened 71 new branches across India between 1 April 2024 and 29 July 2026 to serve major MSME clusters. Its direct credit outstanding rose 36.8% YoY to ₹51,687 crore as of 31 March 2026, while its refinance portfolio grew 16.9% YoY to ₹4,50,571 crore. SIDBI also launched co‑lending arrangements with NBFCs and RRBs, the Prayaas Scheme for informal micro‑entrepreneurs (especially women), and the GST Sahay app for invoice‑based credit. The 2nd BRICS Anti‑Corruption Working Group (ACWG) Meeting was inaugurated on 4 August 2026 in Hyderabad, with Secretary Rachna Shah as chief guest. On International Clouded Leopard Day, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change launched the Clouded Leopard Conservation Action Plan (CAP), prepared under the Government of India‑GEF‑UNDP initiative. Released at the 91st meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Board of Wildlife in July 2026, the plan outlines habitat protection, landscape‑level connectivity, scientific monitoring (camera traps, occupancy surveys, genetics and eDNA), anti‑poaching measures, capacity building using the M‑STrIPES app, and community‑based livelihood support across 14 priority landscapes in Northeast India. Government initiatives—including an 80% reduction in filing fees, financial assistance up to ₹1.5 lakh, and dedicated retail platforms like PM Ekta Malls and OSOP—aim to enhance market access, export promotion, and tourism integration. Success stories such as Muzaffarnagar Jaggery (30 mt exported to Bangladesh) illustrate income gains for producer groups, while the Ministry of Textiles cites a 20–30% income rise for rural artisans. GI tags are also featured in trade negotiations, notably in India‑EU and India‑Oman FTAs.

The Ministry of Home Affairs’s Modernization Plan‑IV for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) has supplied modern weapons, surveillance and intelligence systems, secure communications, mobility platforms, force‑protection gear, specialized operational equipment and infrastructure over the past three years. Items include assault rifles, Glock pistols with Corner Shot, thermal imagers, UAVs, secure communication kits, bullet‑proof vehicles, bullet‑resistant jackets, counter‑IED tools and modern training facilities. Annexure‑A lists annual financial outlays and expenditures for each CAPF from 2022‑23 to 2026‑27. The Ministry states that these measures have markedly improved operational capability, preparedness, mobility, situational awareness, surveillance, force protection and response capacity, thereby strengthening border guarding, counter‑insurgency, anti‑Naxal and other internal security operations.

The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR (CAQM) issued an amendment (dated 03‑08‑2026) to Statutory Direction No. 86, widening enforcement of dust‑mitigation measures at construction and demolition (C&D) sites of less than 500 sqm across the National Capital Region. The amendment extends powers to initiate prosecution against gross violators to additional municipal corporations, development authorities, municipal councils, municipal boards and urban local bodies, including Manesar, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak, Meerut, Alwar, Bharatpur, Bhiwadi and Neemrana. It also mandates monthly status reports on complaints and prosecutions, complementing existing reporting. The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare announced that the Government fixes Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) annually for 22 mandated crops based on the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP) recommendations, after consulting State Governments and central ministries. Since the 2018‑19 Union Budget, MSPs have been raised by at least 50 % above the all‑India weighted average cost of production. Procurement of cereals is done by the Food Corporation of India and state agencies, while pulses, oilseeds and copra are procured under the PM‑AASHA scheme through NAFED and NCCF. From the 2024‑25 season, a Market Intervention Scheme with a Price Differential Payment component and storage‑transport reimbursement for tomato, onion and potato has been introduced. Procurement volumes rose from 6,987 LMT (2004‑14) to 12,819 LMT (2014‑26) and MSP payments increased from Rs 7.41 lakh crore to Rs 27.80 lakh crore.

Under India’s BRICS chairship for 2026, the Ministry of Education will host the 13th BRICS Education Ministers’ Meeting and the 3rd BRICS Senior Officials’ Meeting in Bhubaneswar, Odisha from August 5‑7, 2026. The agenda includes strengthening Early Childhood Care and Education, skill development under the BRICS TVET Cooperation Alliance, collaborative research and innovation, Mutual Recognition of Qualifications, and capacity building for academic leadership. The meetings build on earlier BRICS engagements in 2026 and are guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”. A Model BRICS student initiative will run alongside the meetings to promote youth participation.
