Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Silkworm Seed Infrastructure at Jorhat, Assam

The Union Minister of State for Textiles inaugurated a newly constructed Grainage Building and Cold Storage facility at the CSB-Silkworm Seed Production Centre in Jorhat, Assam. Established under the North-East Region Textile Promotion Scheme, the facility is designed to produce 30 lakh Disease-Free Layings of mulberry hybrid seed annually and preserve up to 1 crore DFLs. The initiative aims to support regional sericulture, enhance rural livelihoods, and strengthen the sericulture value chain in the North-Eastern Region. Officials highlighted Assam's production share in Muga and Eri silk, the sector's employment generation capacity, and related initiatives such as the Samarth Scheme and Mission Senehjori.
