Prudential Corporation Holdings Limited serves as the holding company for the Acquirer Group's insurance and asset management operations in Asia, and provides management and support to its business operations in Asia and Africa. Bharti Life Insurance Company Limited is an IRDAI-licensed insurer incorporated in India that provides life insurance services.

A wage-related dispute involving 423 contract workers at the Ordnance Factory in Kanpur under Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL) was resolved through the intervention of the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Kanpur. Following conciliation efforts, the contractor disbursed approximately ₹50,00,000/- towards outstanding wages for June and July 2026. Additionally, the Principal Employer released the contractor's pending bill for May 2026. This intervention successfully averted a proposed strike, prevented disruption of industrial operations, and promoted industrial peace and harmony by sensitizing management to statutory labour welfare obligations.

The Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, is scheduled to visit Uttarakhand for two days, August 19–20, 2026. During the visit, he will interact with Indian Forest Service (IFS) probationers of the 2025–27 batch at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) in Dehradun on August 19. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is implementing the Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise (SMILE) as an umbrella central sector scheme for comprehensive rehabilitation and socio‑economic empowerment of marginalised groups. Under the sub‑scheme for persons engaged in begging, 42,589 individuals have been identified and 12,710 rehabilitated, with provisions for medical care, counselling, education and skill development. The scheme also covers transgender welfare, establishing 23 Garima Grehs in 17 states/UTs that have rehabilitated 1,041 transgender persons, issued 33,303 identity cards, and provided skill and entrepreneurship training to over 800 beneficiaries. Under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, senior officers from the BRICS member countries met at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi on 17 August 2026 to discuss the Environment Working Group and the Contact Group on Climate Change and Sustainable Development. The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA‑ASI) to lease two MQ‑9B Sea Guardian high‑altitude long‑endurance remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) to the Indian Navy for 30 months. The deal, valued at about Rs 1,943 crore, was executed by Additional Secretary & Director General (Acquisition) Shri A. Anbarasu at Kartavya Bhawan‑2, New Delhi on 17 August 2026. The Union Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, chaired the 3rd Apex Monitoring Authority meeting of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) on 17 August 2026. The meeting reviewed progress of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP), which now covers 20 approved projects across 13 states and 7 corridors, with four smart‑city projects in production. The Ministry of Electronics & IT announced that, under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), 38 plants are already manufacturing and 16 projects are at advanced construction or machinery‑installation stages. A total of 106 projects have been approved, attracting ₹69,548 crore of investment across 15 states and are expected to generate 74,628 direct jobs (plus 2.5 lakh indirect jobs). The scheme has enabled first‑ever domestic production of critical components such as filters, coils, speakers and raw materials like acetylene black and electrolyte additives, with output already exceeding domestic demand in areas such as anode material, optical transceivers and relays. These approvals aim to deepen the ‘Swadeshi’ electronics value chain and reduce import dependence.

On 17 August 2026, India unveiled its first Guide to Grasslands and Other Open Natural Ecosystems (ONEs) at the UNCCD COP‑17 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The guide, prepared under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, documents the geographical settings, ecological traits, biodiversity, and associated communities of India’s grasslands, savannas, deserts, scrublands and related ecosystems. The Indian Army contingent of 85 personnel, mainly from the 9 Gorkha Rifles, departed on 17 August 2026 for Thailand to take part in the 15th India‑Thailand Joint Military Exercise MAITREE‑XV (18‑31 August 2026) at Vibhavadi Rangsit Camp, Surat Thani. The Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) July 2026 bulletin shows a rise in overall Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) to 55.4% (up 1.0 pp from June) and in Rural LFPR to 58.0% (up 1.4 pp). Female LFPR increased to 34.4% (up 1.7 pp). Worker Population Ratio (WPR) rose to 52.5% overall (first increase since Feb 2026) and Rural WPR to 55.4% (up 1.6 pp). Unemployment Rate (UR) fell to 5.1% overall (down from 5.5% in June) and Rural UR to 4.5%. The bulletin is based on a sample of 3,71,021 persons (2,11,411 rural, 1,59,610 urban).

The UDISE+ 2025–26 report, a digital database of school education data, covers 14.67 lakh schools, 1.03 crore teachers and 24.72 crore students. It records a Gross Enrolment Ratio of 71.7 % at the secondary stage and 89.6 % at the middle stage, with overall pupil‑teacher ratio (PTR) of 24:1 (stage‑wise PTR 10:1‑21:1), well within the NEP 2020 benchmark of 30:1. Dropout rates fell to 1.8 % (preparatory) and 7.0 % (secondary) while retention rates remained high (98.5 %‑51.9 %). Infrastructure improvements include computers in 69.9 % of schools, internet in 67.4 %, electricity in 95 % and safe drinking water in 99.5 % of schools. Girls constitute 48.4 % of enrolment and women 54.9 % of teachers; OBCs, SCs and STs together account for 27.7 % of enrolment.

The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, through the Development and Welfare Board for De‑notified, Nomadic and Semi‑Nomadic Communities (DWBDNC), is implementing the Scheme for Economic Empowerment of DNTs (SEED). Established in February 2019 after the National Commission’s 2017 report, the SEED scheme has four components – education, healthcare, livelihoods and housing – and provides quality coaching for competitive exams, health‑insurance cover, community‑level livelihood initiatives and financial assistance for house construction for eligible members of De‑notified, Nomadic and Semi‑Nomadic (DNT/NT/SNT) communities. Bharat Taxi, launched on 6 June 2025 under the Multi‑State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, is India’s first cooperative‑led ride‑hailing platform. Backed by eight national cooperative institutions, it operates a zero‑commission, subscription‑based model that lets driver‑owners (“Sarathis”) retain full fare earnings and participate in governance through shareholding and board representation. As of 25 July 2026 the platform reports nearly 8 lakh registered drivers and 41 lakh customers across several cities, with plans for nationwide rollout by 2029. It integrates with Digital India services (DigiLocker, UMANG, API Setu) and offers women‑centric features, social security via e‑Shram, and partnerships with agencies such as Delhi Traffic Police and State Bank of India.
