Under the Special Campaign 6.0, the Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) in Pune is undertaking scientific organic waste management, nutrient recycling, and sustainable green space maintenance on its campus. The Institute produces about 6,000 kg of compost annually from fallen leaves and garden residues through in-house composting pits, utilizing an 80:20 compost-to-soil mixture for gardening to improve soil structure and water-holding capacity. Additionally, ARI maintains approximately two acres of green areas supporting diverse plant species, medicinal plants, ornamentals, and an Orchidarium. The Institute also promotes nutrition-sensitive horticulture via its 6x6 Nutrition Garden Model, which demonstrates the cultivation of 23 vegetable varieties on a compact 6x6 metre plot to support household nutrition security.

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri J.P. The Department of Posts, Maharashtra Circle, has expanded its premium 24 Speed Post service beyond the existing metro-to-metro network by introducing 27 new lanes, comprising 25 for documents and 2 for parcels. The ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CCARI) in Goa conducted awareness programmes on natural and organic farming at Divar village and its institute premises as part of the Khet Bachao Programme. The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment released a factual report on the Pradhan Mantri Dakshata Aur Kushalta Sampann Hitgrahi (PM-DAKSH) Central Sector Scheme, launched in 2020-21. The scheme aimed to provide skill training to SC, OBC, EWS, De-notified Tribes (DNTs), and Safai Karamcharis (including waste pickers) through empanelled training institutes to promote self-employment and wage-employment. It was implemented via three corporations of the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment and utilized institutes empanelled under PMKVY. Between 2020-21 and 2023-24, an expenditure of Rs. 309.5 crores was incurred, training 1,87,305 candidates and placing 96,162. An evaluation study showed positive outcomes in relevance, learning effectiveness, and non-material gains. From 2024-25 onwards, PM-DAKSH was merged with the PMKVY scheme to avoid duplication.

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change addressed the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Circular Economy Conference in New Delhi, emphasizing the translation of policy intent into action through a whole-of-government approach. The Union Government has introduced sector-specific rules across nine waste streams—including plastic, battery, e-waste, waste tyres, used oil, end-of-life vehicles, construction and demolition waste, non-ferrous scrap metal, and solid waste—aiming at resource recovery and waste prevention. As of October 2026, over 86,043 producers and 4,880 recyclers are registered under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) frameworks, with nearly 499.60 lakh metric tonnes of waste processed. The Minister called for coordinated efforts among government, industry, and urban local bodies, stressing four-stream solid waste segregation, critical mineral recovery, and market-based compliance solutions.

On 14 October 2026, the Union Cabinet approved the continuation of the National Social Assistance Programme as the Pradhan Mantri Samajik Sahayata Yojana for five years from 2026-27 to 2030-31 with an outlay of Rs 53,428 crore. Its four sub-schemes are renamed: old age pension to Pradhan Mantri Vridhavastha Pension Yojana, widow pension to Pradhan Mantri Vidhawa Pension Yojana, disability pension to Pradhan Mantri Divyangjan Pension Yojana, and family benefit to Pradhan Mantri Parivar Labh Yojana. While old age, widow, and family benefit schemes continue in their existing forms, the disability pension has been revised to adopt the 40 per cent benchmark disability under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 (replacing the previous 80 per cent requirement). The minimum age requirement for disability pension is removed, making eligibility run from birth, and central assistance rates are increased.
