Waste to Woods: Raichur Reclaims 22 Acres with Miyawaki Transformation

Raichur in Karnataka has transformed the 35-acre Yakalaspura dumpsite into a green asset through scientific legacy waste remediation under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 (SBM-U 2.0). Approximately 62,252 metric tonnes of legacy waste were processed, reclaiming nearly 22 acres of urban land. On 5 June 2026, the site was inaugurated after plantation activities commenced, featuring a Miyawaki forest developed across 5–7 acres with 60,000 saplings of bamboo and native species. The project was executed in collaboration with the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited and New India Space Limited, aiming to enhance biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and air quality.

An agreement has been signed between Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) under the Department of Telecommunications, the Government of Chhattisgarh, CSBIL, BSNL, and CHiPS to implement the Amended BharatNet Program in Chhattisgarh under a State-led model. The Union Government has approved financial support of ₹3,942 crore for the rollout. The program covers 11,682 Gram Panchayats—including the upgradation of 4,048 Phase I Gram Panchayats to ring topology, coverage of 5,964 Phase II Gram Panchayats, and 1,670 newly created Gram Panchayats—along with providing on-demand connectivity to 8,328 villages. The initiative aims to enable over three lakh rural home fibre connections and improve digital service delivery such as e-governance, education, telemedicine, and digital payments.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has completed over 2 crore Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) for school children across nearly 1.6 lakh schools as part of a nationwide mission-mode drive initiated in September 2025. This drive utilized technological integration with UDISE+ and coordinated outreach with State and UT education departments to conduct school-level camps. Mandatory Biometric Updates are required at ages 5 and 15 to update developing biometrics. UIDAI has waived MBU charges for children aged 7–15 years starting October 1, 2025, making MBU completely free for children aged 5–17 years until September 30, 2026, to prevent authentication difficulties in government schemes and competitive examinations.
