The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), under MeitY, launched CYBER KUSHTI 2026 on 15 August 2026 as a national cybersecurity and AI hackathon that emphasises human judgment over mere detection speed. The competition, conducted in three rounds (Akhada, Dangal, Kesari), provides identical, deliberately imperfect security assessment packages to all teams, requiring them to prioritise, correct, and defend findings using any AI tools. It is aligned with the 3rd National Conference on Cyber Security, Digital Forensics and Intelligence (NCCDFI 2026) and involves collaboration with ISAC Foundation, the National Security Database, and CERT‑In as knowledge partner. The PIB release details the transformation of Ruby Devi, a 32‑year‑old Scheduled Caste woman from Karanpura, Vaishali (Bihar), who moved from daily‑wage labour to operating a grocery store after receiving support under the Sustainable Livelihood Scheme (SJY) and the PM‑AJAY scheme. She received a total of ₹10,000 (SIF), ₹20,000‑₹27,000 (grocery assets), ₹7,000 (LGF), ₹17,000 (PM‑AJAY), and ₹10,000 (Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana) along with three rounds of CBED training and refresher sessions. Her monthly income rose from ₹2,000‑₹3,000 to ₹15,000‑₹20,000, assets are now valued at about ₹1,45,640, and she has opened a bank account, saved money, and enrolled her children in government schools. She also accessed multiple welfare services (ration card, Ayushman, gas, electricity, Indira Awas, toilet, tap water, insurance).

Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan addressed the 22nd Convocation of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, urging graduates to use their knowledge for nation‑building and to adopt the principle ‘Nation First – Rashtra Pratham’. On 16 August 2026 at about 09:30 hrs, a passenger (Shri Kamlesh Kedarnath Rai) travelling on Air India Express flight IX 1810 from Varanasi to Mumbai declared a licensed 7.62 mm pistol with 21 live cartridges at the check‑in counter. While the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) staff were handling the weapon, a round discharged accidentally, injuring two screening personnel (Shri Rohit Raj and Ms Suman Kumari). The injured were taken to New Lakshmi Trauma Centre. The passenger was detained, police informed, and BCAS is investigating the incident. Airport operations continued without disruption.

On 15 August 2025, the Principal Scientific Adviser, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, launched the RSVC‑AMRIT platform, a digital ecosystem developed by NABARD in collaboration with the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (OPSA). AMRIT serves as the digital backbone of the RuTAGe Smart Village Centre (RSVC) initiative, linking innovators, technology providers, startups, validators, accelerators, implementation partners, funding agencies, academic institutions and rural communities. Aheesa Digital Innovations, a Chennai‑based fabless startup backed by the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme, achieved first‑pass silicon success with its VIHAAN broadband System‑on‑Chip, a fibre‑broadband solution built on the indigenous VEGA microprocessor. The company raised about ₹40 crore from the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Fund Management Corporation’s Emerging Sector Seed Fund and other investors. Under the DLI Scheme, Indian firms have collectively completed over 30 chip‑design tape‑outs and attracted more than US$100 million in venture funding. The government’s broader semiconductor initiatives, including the Semicon 2.0 programme with an outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore, aim to build a full‑value‑chain ecosystem and enhance self‑reliance.

Under India’s BRICS Chairmanship for 2026, the Department of Telecommunications will host the BRICS ICT Track in Pune from 17‑21 August 2026. The five‑day programme, themed “Innovate, Cooperate and Transform (ICT) for a Resilient Future”, will comprise three key events – the 7th BRICS Working Group Meeting on ICT cooperation, the Digital BRICS Forum & Expo, and the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting.
