Secretary DARE Calls for Reimagining Agricultural Higher Education Through Global Partnerships

Dr. M.L. Jat, Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), addressed a roundtable at the 2026 Norman E Borlaug International Dialogue virtually. Speaking as the President of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), he called for reimagining agricultural higher education to tackle global challenges such as climate change, natural resource degradation, biodiversity loss, and the demand for nutritious food. He emphasized transitioning to an integrated agri-food systems approach, strengthening industry-academia collaboration, engaging the Indian agricultural diaspora, and expanding international institutional partnerships, including an MoU signed with the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST).
