The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a 12‑year‑old girl in Shahzadpur, Ambala district, Haryana died of jaundice after consuming contaminated drinking water supplied through a public tap. Several other children in the area have also been diagnosed with jaundice. The NHRC considers the alleged contamination a possible human‑rights violation and has issued a notice to the Haryana Chief Secretary, requesting a detailed report within two weeks on the health status of the affected children and the steps taken by the administration to address the issue.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a Class 4 Dalit student was beaten and subjected to casteist slurs by a teacher at a government primary school in Ukawal village, Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh on 28 July 2026. The NHRC noted that, if true, the incident raises serious human‑rights concerns.
