The Third India‑Australia Annual Summit in Melbourne on 9 July 2026 culminated in the finalisation of an Administrative Arrangement under the India‑Australia Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement. The trial ISP, covering 19 sub‑sectors and about 60 % of the sector, was released for April 2026. Fourteen sub‑sectors posted double‑digit growth year‑on‑year, with accommodation & food (37.2 %), retail trade (30.8 %), administrative & support services (28.7 %), real estate (27.7 %) and telecommunications (22.8 %) leading monthly gains. The index uses a 2024‑25 base year and applies sector‑specific price deflators (WPI for wholesale trade, CPI‑General or CPI‑Services for others). Data will be published monthly with a ~60‑day lag, supporting national accounts, economic ministries, researchers and policy‑makers.

The Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr Virendra Kumar, inaugurated the 31st Divya Kala Mela in Kolkata (14‑22 July 2026), marking the first joint Centre‑State effort to provide a national platform for Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs. The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs marked a decade of the CapaCITIES programme with the event ‘Scaling Urban Climate Resilience: The CapaCITIES Legacy and Way Forward’ at the India Habitat Centre on 14 July 2026. Launched in 2016 with funding from the Embassy of Switzerland to India and Bhutan, CapaCITIES has equipped over 35 Indian cities with tools and institutional capacities for low‑carbon, climate‑resilient development, establishing permanent Net‑Zero and Climate Action Cells in six cities and delivering pilot projects such as solar e‑bus charging stations and floating solar plants. Scientists at the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), Bengaluru, under the Department of Science and Technology have created a hybrid vanadium oxide‑vanadium sulfide (VOx/VS2) ammonia sensor that detects ammonia as low as 319 ppb at room temperature. The sensor shows high selectivity, stable operation over ten weeks, and works across a wide concentration range. Prototypes include portable threshold‑triggered monitors, self‑powered devices powered by a flexible piezoelectric nanogenerator, and wearable versions on polymer, paper and textile substrates. These devices can alert users to unsafe ammonia levels in industrial, laboratory and agricultural settings, enabling real‑time safety monitoring without external power sources.

Union Minister Shri Jayant Chaudhary, MoS (Independent Charge) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, addressed the first NIESBUD Alumni Meet 2026 in Noida, urging successful entrepreneurs to mentor aspiring founders. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched ‘AMNESTY, 2026’, a one‑time six‑month scheme (until 28 December 2026) to regularise PF Trusts that are recognised under the Income‑Tax Act but lack formal exemption under the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 or the Code on Social Security, 2020. Eligible establishments will receive retrospective exemption from the Trust’s inception date, and the usual minimum employee‑strength and corpus criteria are waived. The scheme also shields employers from penal action and mandates withdrawal of any pending proceedings, provided statutory contribution rates are maintained and accounts are audited by a Chartered Accountant. Applications must be submitted to the EPFO Regional Office, Goa, with required KYC updates and may be assisted via a dedicated helpdesk.

Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) is undertaking geospatial mapping of the India‑Myanmar border and inter‑state boundaries in the Northeast. On 14 July 2026, over 30 media persons from Western India attended a two‑day capacity‑building workshop at AIIMS Nagpur, co‑organised by UNICEF India, the Press Information Bureau (Western Zone) and AIIMS Nagpur. Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh inaugurated Bharat Tex 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, marking the launch of what the release calls the world’s largest integrated textile‑value‑chain event. The Press Information Bureau organised a one‑day media workshop ‘Varta’ in Nagpur on 14 July 2026 to discuss creating a future‑ready workforce for India’s creative (orange) economy. Dr Ashish Kulkarni, Board Member of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT), highlighted that India currently contributes about 3 % to the global orange economy and aims to raise this to 12‑15 % within the next decade. NIFTEM‑Thanjavur launched a Short‑term Skill Training Programme (STSTP) for Assistant Baking Technician (NSQF Level 3) in partnership with ITC Ltd’s Integrated Consumer Goods Manufacturing and Logistics (ICML) unit in Trichy on 3 July 2026. The programme was inaugurated by Prof V. Palanimuthu, Director, NIFTEM‑Thanjavur, with senior ITC officials present. The Union Minister of Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated a new OPD block at the ESIC Hospital, Sanathnagar, Telangana, at a cost of Rs 211.13 crore. The facility will serve over 12.3 lakh insured persons across the state, offering a range of specialties and 180 general beds, 25 ICU and 20 NICU beds. He highlighted that ESIC beneficiaries have risen from about 7.5 crore a decade ago to more than 15 crore today, reflecting a rise in social‑security coverage from 19 % in 2014 to over 64 % now. The minister also noted that four Labour Codes have replaced 29 earlier laws, introducing worker‑centred provisions such as mandatory appointment letters, free health check‑ups for workers above 40, equal pay for men and women and gratuity after one year of service.
