Crackdown on Fake Seeds: Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan to Hold Nationwide Consultation with Farmer Leaders on September 10
The Government of India is preparing a new, stringent Seed Act to protect farmers from fake, adulterated, and substandard seeds, and to curb seed mafias. Ahead of finalising the legislation, Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will hold a nationwide consultation with senior leaders and ground-level representatives of major farmer organisations from across India on September 10 at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi. The proposed law aims to provide heavy penalties and imprisonment for traders of fake seeds, ensure high standards of quality, establish end-to-end traceability, and safeguard farmers' rights over traditional seeds. Organisations participating include the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Bharatiya Kisan Union factions, and various state-level farmer sanghas.
