The Ministry of Electronics & IT reports that India’s data centre capacity has risen from 375 MW in 2020 to about 1,575 MW in 2026, driven by growing AI and high‑performance computing demand. Private domestic and global firms are expanding facilities in metros such as Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR and Gujarat, and are now targeting states like Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. The government does not provide subsidies for data centre establishment. The CSIR‑National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR‑NIScPR) organised a two‑day Skill Training Course on “Science Communication and Emerging Trends” on 4–5 August 2026 under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative (Phase III). The Weavers' Service Centre (WSC) in Nagpur, under the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, will observe the 12th National Handloom Day on 7 August 2026 at the Common Workshed of Dhapewada Textile Udyog Producer Company Ltd. The event, commencing at 10:30 AM, will host over 300 handloom weavers, producer‑organisation representatives, educators and local‑body officials. It will include awareness sessions on government schemes such as Hathkargha Samvardhan Sahayata, Common Workshed Scheme, Design Development, Cluster Development, Marketing Initiatives, Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana, India Handloom Brand and Raw Material Supply Scheme, an exhibition of handloom products, a live Karvat Kathi weaving demo, and felicitation of outstanding weavers and artisans.

The Government of India has released a total of ₹6,154.96 crore for Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 in FY 2026‑27, comprising ₹5,289.09 crore as central share to 10 states and ₹865.87 crore through the SNA SPARSH platform to 13 states. JJM 2.0, approved on 10 March 2026, extends the mission to December 2028 with an overall outlay of ₹8.69 lakh crore, focusing on assured service delivery, digital governance, and community ownership. A study by researchers from Bose Institute, an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology, proposes a new protocol called General Concurrence Percolation (GCP) for quantum networks. GCP uses a geometric routing approach to amplify entanglement along the shortest paths, avoiding the need to disconnect intermediate stations. Computer simulations show that GCP lowers the minimum entanglement threshold required for long‑distance quantum communication and conforms to the percolation universality class, strengthening the theoretical basis of quantum entanglement percolation.

The Ministry of Coal reported that in July 2026 India’s coal production rose to 69.75 million tonnes (MT), a 7.51 % increase over July 2025’s 64.88 MT. Coal dispatch grew to 86.85 MT, marking an 18.03 % YoY rise, while receipts at thermal power plants reached 68.83 MT, up 13.41 % from the previous year. As of 04 August 2026, coal stock at thermal plants was 34.55 MT, and combined with 113 MT at pitheads and in transit, total available stock stood at about 148 MT – enough for roughly 62 days of power‑sector consumption. The ministry highlighted its focus on uninterrupted coal supply to meet the nation’s energy needs.

The Ministry of Culture, through the autonomous Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF), implements schemes to promote and develop public libraries across India. Financial assistance is provided for infrastructure, books, furniture, ICT‑enabled services and digitisation of copyright‑free manuscripts and heritage material. RRRLF also facilitates best‑practice sharing via workshops and State Library Planning Committee meetings. Under the National Mission on Libraries (NML) Scheme, a Model Library is to be set up in each State/UT – one central and one district library – plus six additional libraries identified by the Ministry. The Ministry has also launched the National Virtual Library of India (NVLI) on the Indian Culture Portal and the National Archives of India has digitised about 19.7 crore pages, now accessible via the Abhilekh Patal portal.

The Ministry of Science & Technology notes that limited validated human‑relevant, non‑animal models slow drug discovery and increase reliance on animal studies. To address this, laboratories under CSIR, ICMR and DBT are promoting advanced in‑vitro, 3D tissue/organoid, cell‑based and computational approaches. His portrait, painted by Shri Samir Das, was unveiled by President Shri Pranab Mukherjee on 10 Feb 2014 and is displayed in the Outer Lobby of Samvidhan Sadan.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti, in partnership with the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), launched the MAHA Water programme on 1 June 2026 to fund mission‑oriented, solution‑based research addressing water challenges. The programme targets five thematic areas – water resource assessment and sustainable management, drinking water, water quality, human and ecological health, water use efficiency & circular economy, and climate resilience & adaptation. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions reports that the Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) now mandates a 21‑day timeline for grievance disposal. The Ministry of Commerce & Industry clarified that media reports claiming India is importing large quantities of ethanol from the United States for fuel blending are inaccurate. According to the domestic policy framework governing the Ethanol Blended with Petrol Programme, all ethanol used for blending is sourced from domestic producers, and no ethanol is imported from the U.S. The ministry also stated that no concessions or commitments concerning ethanol imports have been made in India‑U.S. trade discussions, indicating that the existing fuel‑blending policy remains unchanged and solely based on domestic requirements.

The 82.15‑km Delhi‑Ghaziabad‑Meerut Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), India’s first such corridor, became fully operational in February 2026. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) reports that over 3.8 crore commuters have used the service with punctuality exceeding 99 %. Multi‑modal integration links the corridor with three metro lines, two railway stations and four bus terminals. The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology’s IndiaAI Mission organised the AIKosh University Engagement Programme at Chitkara University on 6 August 2026. The event, part of the Mission approved in March 2024, aimed to raise AI awareness, democratise access to AI resources and equip students with tools to join India’s growing AI ecosystem. Over 250 students attended expert sessions and hands‑on activities introducing them to AIKosh – India’s unified data platform that currently hosts more than 14,000 datasets, 300 AI models and 30 toolkits. Participants explored the AIKosh Model Context Protocol and SDK, and were encouraged to contribute datasets and develop proof‑of‑concept AI applications for public‑good use cases.

The Ministry of Education has announced that the last date for submitting fresh and renewal applications for the National Means‑cum‑Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the 2026‑27 academic year is 31 August 2026, to be done via the National Scholarship Portal. Applications undergo two‑stage verification – Level‑1 by Institute Nodal Officers by 15 September 2026 and Level‑2 by District Nodal Officers by 30 September 2026. From 2026‑27, students can apply for one merit‑based and multiple welfare‑based scholarships simultaneously, provided eligibility criteria are met. The scheme awards one lakh fresh scholarships annually to Class‑IX students from economically weaker sections, with renewals up to Class‑XII, aiming to reduce dropout after Class VIII.

The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has amended the Drugs Rules, 1945 through G.S.R. No. 756(E) dated 16 October 2025. The amendment empowers the licensing authority to debar entities that submit fake or fabricated data in any drug‑related application, preventing them from filing further applications with the State or Central authority for a specified period. A show‑cause notice and an appeal mechanism are prescribed before debarment.
