The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the maiden live jump of the Advanced High-Altitude Parachute (AHAP) at Nyoma (Mudh DZ), a high-altitude drop zone located at 16,000 feet above mean sea level. Designed by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE) in Agra and manufactured by the Ordnance Parachute Factory in Kanpur, AHAP is an indigenous static line parachute system meant for mass drops of paratroopers. The system features multiple deployment modes, an operational range up to 18,000 feet, and a safe rate of descent suited for tactical requirements in high-altitude terrain.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, through Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), is operationalising a Points, Rewards and Recognition (PRR) Mechanism on the MY Bharat Portal. The initiative aims to encourage sustained youth participation in volunteering, experiential learning, and nation-building. The structured, milestone-based system rewards accumulated points with various forms of recognition. At 1,000 points, youth receive a formal Letter of Recognition; at 2,500 points, recognition on official social media handles; and at 5,000 points, inclusion in a Digital Hall of Fame. Higher milestones provide books and opportunities to meet senior leadership, including the Minister of State and the Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports during events like the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue.

The Raksha Mantri witnessed the delivery of the 2,000th aero-engine by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Koraput Division, marking six decades of propulsion manufacturing since its establishment in 1964. Key announcements included increasing annual AL-31FP engine production capacity from 30 to 50 engines with a Rs 335 crore investment, and establishing a second Shakti engine production line with a Rs 218 crore investment to achieve an annual capacity of up to 100 engines by 2028-29. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has clarified its protocol regarding meetings with political delegations following a political march towards the Commission. According to the ECI, no political party sought an appointment before 4:00 PM on the day. Around 4:00 PM, Delhi Police informed the Commission that a delegation of MPs led by the Leader of the Opposition wished to submit a memorandum. The ECI noted that under a procedure laid down in 2025, parties must seek appointments through duly authorized representatives for meetings held on ECI premises. However, because the proposed meeting involved 240 MPs at Parliament House Annexe, the ECI considered the venue unusual and declined it, offering instead to send its senior-most officer on duty to receive the memorandum, which was declined by the MPs.

A multi-institutional study coordinated by the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), Nainital, tracked the changing brightness, colour, and polarization of the peculiar blazar OJ 287 over a decade (2015 to 2025). Located about 4 billion light years away, OJ 287 is a rare giant binary black hole system containing two supermassive black holes in a 12-year orbit that produce powerful plasma jets. The international team utilized ground- and space-based telescopes across the electromagnetic spectrum to produce extensive optical time-series data, helping determine the relative positions of the black holes, estimate the central black hole mass at least 3.89 billion solar masses, and advance studies in multimessenger astronomy.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) conducted an intelligence-led operation along the Indo-Bangladesh border in the Cooch Behar District, resulting in the seizure of over 8.3 kg of foreign-origin gold valued at approximately Rs. 12.37 crore. The operation involved the interception of four individuals on motorcycles carrying 72 gold biscuits concealed in specially tailored cloth waist belts. The gold was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, and all four suspects were arrested, with further investigations ongoing.

General Dhiraj Seth, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), flagged in the Joint Indo-Argentine Army Mountaineering Expedition in New Delhi after their successful ascent of Mt Abi Gamin and Mt Kamet in Uttarakhand. The 35-member team consisted of 25 personnel from the Indian Army and 10 from the Argentine Army. The beneficiary received a comprehensive package of support including home detoxification, medical assistance, psychological and family counselling, behavioural rehabilitation, and vocational guidance over a three-month period. Following the structured intervention, he successfully recovered, adopted a disciplined lifestyle, and secured employment as a salesman in Kakching Bazar, demonstrating the effectiveness of accessible rehabilitation services in fostering social and economic reintegration.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, through Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), conducted the Viksit Bharat Quiz as the first stage of the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD) 2027, recording 1,45,26,013 attempts. Around 5.7 lakh qualified participants will advance to the Viksit Bharat Essay Challenge to submit 500-word essays on the MY Bharat portal by 15th October, 2026, across ten designated regional themes in any of 23 languages. The multi-stage selection pathway proceeds through the Quiz, Essay Challenge, District PPT Championship, State/UT VBYLD, and ultimately to the National VBYLD contingent.

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways concluded the two-day 'Chintan Shivir 2026 – A National Conclave on Highway Infrastructure' at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat. The conclave focused on Centre-State collaboration, sharing field-level experiences, and building institutional capacity for high-quality road infrastructure across urban and rural networks, state highways, and expressways. Discussions centered on leveraging national technology platforms like PM GatiShakti, Data Lake, eDAR, and Bhoomi Rashi for state-level applications. The Government has appointed Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit as the 29th Chief of the Air Staff, effective from the afternoon of October 31, 2026. He will succeed the outgoing Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, who superannuates on the same date. Prior to this appointment, Air Marshal Dixit served as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff and has held several key field and staff appointments over a career spanning approximately four decades, including roles at the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and Central Air Command. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and has extensive flying experience across multiple aircraft.

The Government of India has appointed Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit as the 29th Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), effective from October 31, 2026. He will assume the rank of Air Chief Marshal, succeeding the current CAS, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh. Commissioned in 1986 into the fighter stream, Air Marshal Dixit is an Experimental Test Pilot and a Qualified Flying Instructor with over 3,500 hours of flying experience. His career includes serving as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC), and Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Air Command. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Staff Service College, and National Defence College.

The Department of Justice organized the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026 from 17th September to 2nd October, 2026, under the theme 'Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat'. The campaign aimed to strengthen voluntarism and collective action for cleanliness through various activities including the Swachhata Pledge, shramdaan, intensive deep cleaning of office premises, maintenance work, and sports events.
