The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has published draft amendments proposing Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for two pesticides, Acetamiprid and Imidacloprid, in tea. Published in the Gazette of India on October 16, 2026, the draft proposes MRLs of 20 mg/kg for Acetamiprid and 50 mg/kg for Imidacloprid. The proposed limit for Acetamiprid is lower than the limits in Japan and the USA. This proposal follows earlier regulatory measures such as the delisting of 13 higher-toxicity pesticides. The initiative seeks to balance consumer safety and food standards with effective agricultural pest management, noting that India's average pesticide use is less than 0.5 kg per hectare, which is significantly below the global average.

The Supreme Court of India constituted a High Powered Enquiry Committee (HPEC) to investigate all aspects of violence incidents at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and places outside Delhi during July 2026. The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) has disbursed Rs 1.19 crore under the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) mechanism to 29 State Biodiversity Boards and one Union Territory Biodiversity Council. The funds aim to support biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of biological resources, and community welfare. This amount represents ABS contributions collected from various companies for the research and commercial utilization of agricultural biological resources such as maize, rice, pearl millet, and cotton. Because individual benefit claimers could not be identified as resources were procured through markets or traders, allocations were made proportionally based on estimated cultivation areas from official agricultural statistics. The funds are mandated for exclusive use in activities specified under Section 32(2) of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002.

A high-level team from the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM), led by Member (Technical) Dr. T.S. Panwar, visited the Firozpur and Faridkot districts of Punjab to review ground-level implementation of measures preventing paddy stubble burning. The team held joint review meetings with Deputy Commissioners and district officers focusing on preparedness for in-situ and ex-situ crop residue management (CRM), availability and optimal utilization of CRM machinery, field surveillance, hotspot monitoring, and enforcement measures. The CAQM emphasized strengthening stakeholder coordination, leveraging technology such as drones and low-cost sensors, sensitizing farmers against stubble burning and PM2.5 emissions, and ensuring farmers have timely access to management machinery.

The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) reviewed compliance status, inspection findings, and enforcement actions across the National Capital Region (NCR) during the 141st meeting of its Enforcement Task Force. Between September 25 and October 9, 2026, 124 inspections were conducted across construction and demolition sites, industrial sectors, and diesel generator sets, leading to 55 reported violations and various proposed enforcement actions such as closures, sealing, and Environmental Compensation. The ETF also evaluated cumulative enforcement figures, resumption orders, and directed Flying Squads to prioritize Red and Orange category industries, particularly those with furnaces and boilers, to mitigate air pollution.

EXERCISE KONKAN-26, the India-UK bilateral maritime exercise, concluded off Plymouth, UK, after being conducted from October 8 to 15, 2026. The Indian Navy was represented by the stealth frigate INS Trishul, while the Royal Navy deployed HMS Sutherland, a Duke-class anti-submarine warfare frigate. The exercise, conducted by the Fleet Operational Standards and Training (FOST) of the Royal Navy, featured an intensive four-day Sea Phase involving advanced seamanship manoeuvres, joint tactical exercises, communication procedures, anti-surface asymmetric warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and weapon firings to enhance interoperability.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, through MY Bharat and the National Service Scheme (NSS), launched Month 2 of the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat 100 Week Sankalp Abhiyan with the nationwide observance of “Yoga evam Aatm-Suraksha Diwas” on October 16, 2026. On World Menopause Day 2026, the Ministry of Ayush and the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) highlighted the role of Ayurveda in providing a holistic, preventive, and individualized approach to menopausal health. Menopause is described as a natural biological stage accompanied by physical and psychological changes, addressed in Ayurveda under Rajonivritti. The Ministry emphasizes raising awareness, lifestyle practices, counseling, yoga, meditation, and research on classical Ayurvedic formulations such as Ashokarista and Amalaki Rasayana to support women's health, emotional well-being, and quality of life.

The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) signed an MoU with Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth (RAV) to recognise AIIA's Department of Kaumarbhritya in Delhi and Goa as a Centre of Excellence for RAV. The partnership aims to standardise Swarnaprashan, develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), and undertake research, training, and capacity building in Ayurveda paediatrics. Additionally, AIIA Goa established a multidisciplinary paediatric neurorehabilitation centre called PRAYAS for conditions like autism and cerebral palsy. Furthermore, an international MoU was signed between AIIA Goa and Maharishi International University, USA, to establish an Ayurveda Academic Chair.
