The Ministry of Culture has launched the Suryapath Tiranga Global Relay to mark India’s Independence Day, beginning at 1:30 AM IST in Suva, Fiji. The flag‑hoisting relay follows the path of the rising sun, moving westward through 40 countries across the Pacific, West Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas, including nations such as New Zealand, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kenya, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Suriname. The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), launched on 15 August 2019, reports that rural household tap water coverage has risen from 16.72 % (3.23 crore households) at inception to 82.24 % (15.91 crore households) today, an increase of over 12.68 crore connections. A total of 188 districts, 1,090 blocks, 1.01 lakh Gram Panchayats and 2.04 lakh villages have been certified ‘Har Ghar Jal’. Additionally, 9.34 lakh schools (90.86 %) and 9.73 lakh Anganwadi centres (86.21 %) now have tap connections. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that 19 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel died by suicide between January and 22 May 2026. The CRPF data shows 59 suicides in 2025, the highest in the last five years, and a total of 281 suicides over the past five years, with about 216 occurring on duty. The NHRC has issued notices to the Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and the CRPF Director General, seeking a detailed report within two weeks, citing possible violation of the right to life of the personnel.
