The National Film Development Corporation–National Film Archive of India (NFDC–NFAI) has restored the Malayalam classic Kireedam (1989) in 4K resolution with Dolby Atmos sound. The restoration relied on a 35 mm release print preserved by the Archive for over 30 years, as the original camera negative had deteriorated. High‑resolution scanning, digital image restoration, colour grading and sound remastering were overseen by cinematographer S. Kumar and director Siby Malayil, with the theatrical version completed by Prasad Corporation and Hy Studioz. The restored film will release on 10 July 2026 in India and overseas, and had its world premiere at the 55th International Film Festival of India. The effort underscores NFDC–NFAI’s commitment under the National Film Heritage Mission to preserve India’s audiovisual heritage.
