The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released results of an Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted in June 2026 along the Ganga river from Kolkata to Kachubaria‑Gangasagar (124.4 km) under the West Bengal LSA. Using SIMs of all Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) on 2G‑5G networks, TRAI measured coverage gaps, call‑drop rates, call‑setup success, and data download/upload throughput. Coverage gaps (samples with signal < ‑110 dBm for 5G/4G, < ‑90 dBm for 3G, < ‑85 dBm for 2G) were 1051/18186 for Airtel, 10326/16338 for BSNL, 1474/18149 for RJIL and 1819/18122 for VIL. Average download speeds recorded were 55.93 Mbps (Airtel), 5.95 Mbps (BSNL), 86.53 Mbps (RJIL) and 24.23 Mbps (VIL); average upload speeds were 5.54 Mbps, 1.65 Mbps, 4.95 Mbps and 3.43 Mbps respectively. The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) detailed its nuclear‑technology training infrastructure. BARC Training School in Mumbai has a capacity of 230 trainees for engineering design, reactor operation and basic sciences, while its training unit at the Atomic Minerals Directorate in Hyderabad can train 25 trainees in uranium exploration techniques. The Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership (GCNEP) in Bahadurgarh runs five specialised schools – each with a capacity of 20‑45 participants – covering advanced reactor systems, nuclear security, radiological safety, material characterization and radio‑isotope applications. NPCIL operates seven Nuclear Training Centres (NTCs) across its power plants, offering orientation programmes for engineers (capacity 30‑80), supervisors (25‑60) and technicians (50‑80). Over the last five years, 917 Trainee Scientific Officers were admitted to BARC, 863 of whom were absorbed as Scientific Officers, and 590 Category‑I and 1,308 Category‑II trainees were taken in, with 158 already placed in BARC. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released results of an Independent Drive Test (IDT) carried out from 13‑16 May 2026 across South Tripura district and adjoining areas. The test measured key Quality of Service parameters – coverage gap, call drop rate, call‑silence instances, and data download/upload throughput – for four telecom service providers (Airtel, BSNL, RJIL and VIL) on 2G‑5G networks. Coverage gaps ranged from 20.2 % (Airtel) to 41.5 % (VIL). Dropped‑call ratios were 4.1 % (Airtel) to 16.2 % (VIL). The Ministry of Culture reports that infrastructural and aesthetic development of spiritual corridors in Kashi (Varanasi), Ayodhya and Mathura‑Vrindavan is being undertaken under tourism schemes such as PRASHAD, Swadesh Darshan, CBDD, ACA and SASCI. Projects, approved on proposals from State/UT administrations, aim to integrate modern visitor amenities while preserving cultural and heritage character. The initiatives are expected to boost cultural tourism, increase tourist footfall and create livelihood opportunities for local artisans and related sectors. The Ministry of Culture’s Global Engagement Scheme (GES) has been revised and extended for FY 2026‑27 to 2030‑31 with an outlay of Rs 299.94 crore. The Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 establish a statutory framework for solid‑waste handling, mandating four‑stream segregation at source and online tracking via a Centralised Online Portal. The Ministry of Culture is digitising museum collections and archival resources using the JATAN software developed with C‑DAC, Pune. A national digital repository on the Museums of India portal hosts digitised artefacts from eight national museums, two ASI site museums and the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Museum, with 3,75,707 of 4,88,983 artefacts (≈76.83%) digitised as of 15 July 2026. Under the Museum Grant Scheme, Rs 25 lakh was sanctioned in the last three financial years for digitisation. The Gyan Bharatam Mission has made over 3.5 lakh manuscripts available online, while the National Archives of India has digitised about 17.67 crore images and is uploading them to the ‘Abhilekh Patal’ portal.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) activated Intra‑Circle Roaming (ICR) in disaster‑affected districts of Jammu & Kashmir (Poonch, Rajouri), Assam (Sibsagar, Charaideo, Jorhat) and Nagaland (Mon) following heavy rainfall, cloudbursts and landslides. ICR enables subscribers of any telecom operator to automatically connect to another operator’s network when their home network is unavailable, and is also available to visitors from other parts of the country. DoT issued directions to all service providers, urged users to keep automatic network selection enabled, and is monitoring restoration through field units to support residents, relief teams, healthcare personnel and government agencies.

Operation Southern Readiness 26‑2, a four‑day multinational maritime security training exercise, concluded at the Southern Naval Command, Kochi on 23 July 2026. Organized by the Indian Navy in partnership with the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) and the Indian Navy‑led Combined Task Force 154, the event involved 276 personnel from 27 countries, 76 facilitators and experts, and participants from four international organisations. The programme covered maritime domain awareness, maritime law, counter‑narcotics, force‑protection, asymmetric threats, uncrewed systems and operational sea training, with practical sessions on damage control, firefighting, communications, survival at sea and boarding. It generated 3,800 training man‑hours and aimed to enhance interoperability, professional networks and regional capacity‑building in maritime security.

On 22 July 2026, the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) carried out a special inspection of 64 urban road stretches (≈31 km) in Faridabad and Gurugram. Using nine Flying Squads, the inspection covered 50 stretches under the Municipal Corporation Faridabad and 14 under the Municipal Corporation Gurugram, focusing on roads with Right‑of‑Way widths of <10 m and 10‑15 m. The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), an autonomous scientific society under MeitY, has partnered with the Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL), Mohali to make an indigenous 1.2 µm Process Design Kit (PDK) available on the eChipHub platform. eChipHub, managed by NIELIT under the MeitY‑funded project “Development of EdTech Platform in Semiconductor Space to Democratize Chip Design and Development Ecosystem for Masses,” will provide Aadhaar‑authenticated access to the PDK for students, researchers, startups, MSMEs and industry professionals. The integration creates one of India’s first indigenous design‑to‑fabrication learning pathways, linking RTL design through to fabrication‑ready IC designs, and supports the goal of building a skilled workforce for the India Semiconductor Mission.

The Ministry of Culture reports that 1,100 monuments and heritage sites in South India are declared of national importance and are maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). State‑wise counts are: Andhra Pradesh 136, Karnataka 506, Kerala 30, Puducherry 7, Tamil Nadu 412, Telangana 9. ASI conducts periodic inspections and undertakes maintenance, preservation, restoration and conservation activities under the National Conservation Policy, 2014, stating that no protected monument is deteriorating. The Health Physics Unit of BARC monitors the environment around uranium mining sites operated by UCIL. Monitoring is overseen by AERB, with inspections by AERB, DGMS and the State Pollution Control Board. Continuous radiological monitoring shows worker and public exposure remains within AERB limits. A health survey in Jharkhand villages found disease patterns typical of rural areas and not attributable to radiation. UCIL, together with BARC and regulators, conducts long‑term health monitoring, environmental surveillance, and community welfare programmes, including safe drinking water, healthcare, sanitation, education, skill development and radiation‑safety awareness activities.
