The Union Cabinet approved the Central Sector Scheme ‘Mission Mausam’ in 2024 to make India a “Weather‑ready and Climate‑smart” nation, covering Assam. The mission seeks to improve weather and climate prediction accuracy by upgrading observation networks, high‑resolution numerical models, high‑performance computing and last‑mile dissemination of early warnings. Under this framework, the Central Water Commission (CWC) of the Ministry of Jal Shakti is tasked to issue short‑range flood forecasts (up to 24 hours) for Assam, operating 32 flood‑forecast stations on the Brahmaputra and Barak basins. CWC has developed AI/ML‑based models for 12 Level‑Forecast stations, eight of which lie in the Brahmaputra basin. Additionally, BARC and TMC have developed the “90Y‑BhabhaSphere” for radio‑embolisation of liver tumours, approved by the Radiopharmaceutical Committee and produced by BRIT.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change explained that under the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification, 2006 (issued pursuant to the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986), infrastructure projects intersecting Tiger Reserves or other Protected Areas are examined through a two‑stage process. First, the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) or State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) assesses environmental clearance, and second, wildlife clearance is sought under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, involving the State Chief Wildlife Warden, State Board for Wildlife and the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife (SCNBWL). The Ministry’s PARIVESH portal hosts a GIS‑enabled Decision Support System that analyses proximity to Protected Areas, Eco‑Sensitive Zones, forests, wetlands and coastal zones. During FY 2024‑25 and 2025‑26, 20 infrastructure projects located wholly or partly in Protected Areas or ESZs received environmental clearance after incorporating project‑specific safeguards such as habitat conservation and pollution control. No construction may commence without the requisite wildlife clearance.

The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) has outlined a roadmap to achieve 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047, as announced in the Nuclear Energy Mission of the Union Budget 2025‑26. The plan involves a two‑pronged strategy: deploying indigenous 700 MWe PHWRs and imported advanced reactors at greenfield sites, and developing Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) for brownfield applications, captive power and off‑grid use. Nuclear technology in Medical Sector:

The newly reconstituted National Advisory Board on Management of Genetic Resources (NABMGR) held its first meeting on 29 July 2026 at ICAR‑NBPGR, New Delhi.
