The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has launched 'DAANVEER', a people-led computer crowdsourcing initiative designed to strengthen digital infrastructure and governance at the grassroots level in Gram Panchayats. Operating through the Meri Panchayat mobile application, the initiative enables individuals, organizations, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) partners to voluntarily donate desktop computers directly to verified Gram Panchayats. The platform integrates with DigiHaat, an Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC)-enabled digital marketplace, simplifying the procurement and delivery process. Donors can select a Panchayat, choose a standardized computer bundle, make digital payments, and track orders in real time. Once the Gram Panchayat Secretary acknowledges receipt and installs the equipment, donors receive a digitally generated Certificate of Appreciation.

The Ministry of Defence announced the delivery of 'Samarthak', the first indigenous Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV) of the Indian Navy, built by Larsen & Toubro Ltd. at Kattupalli. Delivered on August 27, 2026, the vessel features over 75 percent indigenous content. It is engineered to serve as a trial and evaluation platform, conduct maritime surveillance and reconnaissance, undertake offshore patrolling, and support Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. The delivery marks a significant milestone in India's indigenous shipbuilding journey and aligns with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and a self-sustaining domestic defence industrial ecosystem.

The Raksha Mantri and the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the T-Series Tanks Overhaul Project at the Vehicle Factory in Jabalpur, a unit of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL). Valued at Rs 472 crore, the project aims to overhaul 80 T-72 and T-90 tanks annually to meet the Indian Army's requirement of 230 overhauls per year, supplementing the Heavy Vehicles Factory in Avadi. The initiative is intended to boost operational readiness, support indigenous defence manufacturing, engage local MSMEs, and generate regional employment.

The Government has undertaken calibrated market interventions to ensure the adequate availability of onions at affordable prices through buffer stocks sold at ₹35 per kg in Delhi-NCR. To address logistics and moderate price pressures, the Kanda Express initiative has been deployed to move buffer onions from producing regions to consumption centres via rail and road networks, expanding from 14 railway rakes transporting nearly 12,000 MT in 2024-25 to 86 rakes transporting around 88,000 MT in 2025-26. Additionally, the Central Warehousing Corporation has been integrated into the mechanism to assist with scientific storage and efficient distribution.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a fire incident on August 24, 2026, at the Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the District Women's Hospital in Amravati, Maharashtra. The incident, reportedly caused by a blast in a ventilator machine, resulted in the death of three newborns and injuries to four others out of nine infants present. Observing that these events constitute a serious violation of human rights, the NHRC has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra. A detailed report regarding the status of the injured infants and the disbursement of government-announced compensation has been requested within two weeks.

This PIB release outlines the livelihood transformation of a 25-year-old sanitation worker, Himanshu, through financial assistance provided under the Swachhta Udyami Yojana (SUY) component of the NAMASTE Scheme. The assistance, disbursed in August 2025, supported the procurement of a tractor-cum-suction machine with a total project cost of Rs 10,70,400, including a loan and an upfront capital subsidy. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has finalised three 60-second short films to create public awareness against substance abuse and its harmful effects. As the nodal agency for Drug Demand Reduction, the Ministry implements the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) and the flagship Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) launched on August 15, 2020. The finalised short films focus on understanding early warning signs and behavioural changes due to substance use, highlighting the National De-addiction and Tele-counselling Helpline 14446, and emphasizing the role of parents and teachers in early identification, prevention, and treatment.
