NITI Aayog released the ninth edition of 'Trade Watch Quarterly' for Quarter 1 of FY27 (April–June 2026), providing an assessment of global and domestic trade trends. It features a thematic focus on India's metals and ores trade, examining export competitiveness, growing import dependence for critical minerals, structural constraints, and opportunities for domestic value addition. Additionally, the publication notes India's advancement to the fourth-largest exporter of Digitally Delivered Services globally, rising from $277 billion in 2024 to $317 billion in 2025.

NITI Aayog launched the second edition of the India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) report during a workshop on State EV Policies. Addressing the event, Shri Rajiv Gauba emphasized electric mobility as a strategic, economic, and environmental imperative for Viksit Bharat 2047, citing India's heavy reliance on crude oil imports, public health costs from vehicular emissions, and the automotive sector's economic footprint. The release highlighted government financial support exceeding ₹92,000 crore via initiatives like FAME, PM E-DRIVE, PM E-bus Sewa, and PLI schemes, along with the rollout of the Unified Bharat e-Charge app. Furthermore, it noted that 29 States and Union Territories have notified EV policies, with IEMI scores indicating overall improvements across states.

The PM Vishwakarma scheme, launched on 17 September 2023, is a Central Sector Scheme with an outlay of ₹13,000 crore for FY2023-24 to FY2027-28. It is designed to provide end-to-end support to traditional artisans and craftspeople belonging to 18 notified family-based trades in the unorganised sector. Built around the pillars of Samman, Samarthya, and Samriddhi, the scheme encompasses recognition via certificates and ID cards, skill upgradation training with daily stipends, modern toolkits up to ₹15,000, collateral-free enterprise development loans up to ₹3 lakh at a 5% concessional interest rate, digital transaction incentives, and extensive marketing support. As the scheme approaches its third anniversary, its initial registration target of 30 lakh beneficiaries has been achieved, with significant disbursements in training, toolkits, credit, and digital enablement recorded alongside formalisation through the Udyam Assist Platform.

The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) is celebrating the third anniversary of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme in Kolkata on September 17, 2026. Launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on September 17, 2023, the scheme aims to provide comprehensive and end-to-end support to traditional artisans and craftspeople engaged in 18 identified trades. Within three years, the scheme has registered 30 lakh beneficiaries following a three-stage verification process, achieving its registration target. Furthermore, around 24.50 lakh beneficiaries have received basic skill training, 6.18 lakh have received concessional loan support totaling ₹5,297 crore, and 18.15 lakh modern toolkits have been delivered through India Post.

Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change launched India’s Net Zero Portal and the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) Dashboard in Mumbai on World Ozone Day 2026. The Net Zero Portal serves as a centralised digital platform for entities across sectors to voluntarily register, disclose greenhouse gas emissions, declare Net Zero targets, and provide annual progress updates. The NAPCC Dashboard provides a consolidated digital view to monitor implementation progress across National Missions under the NAPCC, strengthening inter-ministerial coordination, evidence-based assessment, and transparency in domestic and international climate actions.

The 43rd edition of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Commanders’ Conference is scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 17 to 19, 2026. The conference will be addressed by Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth on the opening day. As the highest-level professional forum of the ICG, senior commanders will gather to discuss strategic, operational, and administrative priorities over three days. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) marked a decade of India's Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme with an event in New Delhi. The programme has grown to certify 5,967 entities—including importers, exporters, manufacturers, customs brokers, logistics operators, and warehouse operators—across T1, T2, T3, and LO categories. Aligned with the World Customs Organisation’s SAFE Framework of Standards, the initiative has shifted customs administration from a transaction-centric approach to a risk-based, trust-oriented model. The Ministry of Coal is launching the 16th Round of Commercial Coal Mine Auctions in New Delhi, with the Minister of State for Coal and Mines as the Chief Guest. Over the past six years and fifteen completed rounds, 147 coal mines have been auctioned, bringing 44 new companies into the sector. The 16th round offers fully and partially explored coal blocks under liberal terms, including no end-use restrictions, 100 percent FDI through the automatic route, and low adjustable upfront payments. The commercial coal auction programme aims to increase domestic coal production, reduce import dependence, support Aatmanirbhar Bharat, attract investment, and create employment opportunities.

The World Circular Economy Forum 2026 (WCEF2026) concluded in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, after drawing approximately 2,700 delegates and 260 speakers from over 60 countries. Organized with international and national participation, including representatives from India and Finland, the two-day forum featured plenary and parallel sessions focusing on financial, technical, social, and economic aspects of the circular economy, alongside the launch of the Ecomark logo. The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) conducted a special inspection of 22 industrial units in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, on September 15, 2026, using 7 Flying Squads in coordination with local authorities. The drive revealed that 16 units were non-compliant with applicable norms and Statutory Directions, while 6 were compliant. Violations included intense visible smoke, inadequate Air Pollution Control Devices, malfunctioning Online Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems, bypass arrangements in wet scrubbers, and stack non-conformance. Consequently, 12 Show Cause Notices were issued, two suspected illegal units denied entry for re-inspection, two units were sealed by the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, and the CAQM reiterated its mandate to strengthen enforcement across the NCR.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with InD Events Dubai to make India the Official Partner Country at Gulfood 2027 for the second consecutive year. Held in the UAE, Gulfood 2027 is scheduled for March 15-19, 2027. The collaboration aims to expand international market access for Indian agricultural and processed food products, strengthen trade engagement under the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), and leverage Dubai as a gateway to the GCC, Middle East, and African markets. The participation will feature a unified national platform focusing on MSMEs, FPOs, startups, and women- and SC/ST-led exporters alongside established commodity strengths.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has declared the Shahzad Bhatti Network as a terrorist organization under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). According to the Union Home Minister, the group is involved in cross-border smuggling of arms, explosives, and narcotics, and incites youths and petty criminals into terrorism. Additionally, the syndicate targets India's democratic structure and communal harmony through the publication of hateful digital content. This action aligns with the government's stated policy of zero tolerance against terrorism.

The Department of Fisheries, Government of India, is organizing a National Workshop on Promotion of Deep-Sea Fishing and Interaction with Access Pass and LoA Holders in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The workshop focuses on technology, financing, skill development, and market linkages to promote the harnessing of high-value marine resources and seafood exports. Discussions will cover the entire deep-sea fishing value chain, vessel modernization, institutional finance, and export compliance. India possesses a coastline of approximately 11,099 km and an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of about 24 lakh sq. km, with an estimated marine fisheries potential of 58.6 lakh MT. The government has notified the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Rules, 2025 and High Seas Guidelines, 2025, and issues digital Access Passes via the ReALCRaft Portal to empower traditional fishers, cooperatives, and Fish Farmer Producer Organizations for sustainable deep-sea fishing.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate SEMICON India 2026 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, on 17 September 2026. The three-day conference and exhibition, held from 17 to 19 September, is organized under the theme ‘Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem’. The event brings together companies, policymakers, investors, researchers, start-ups, academic institutions, and students across the semiconductor and electronics value chain to focus on collaboration, investment, innovation, and talent development. It features over 600 participating companies, representatives from 52 countries, six Country Pavilions, twelve State booths, a Startup Pavilion, Innovation Showcase, Student Hackathon, and a Workforce Development Pavilion.

Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth is undertaking an official visit to Russia from 16 to 18 September 2026 to strengthen India-Russia defence cooperation and military-to-military ties. During the visit, his engagements in Moscow include receiving a ceremonial Guard of Honour, paying tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, holding bilateral discussions with Colonel General Andrei Nikolayevich Mordvichev, and visiting the National Defence Control Centre. The Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, has launched 'Swachh Seva Aankalan' (SSA), an annual Gram Panchayat-level digital self-assessment framework for Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) 2.0. Launched by the Union Minister of Jal Shakti on 15th September 2026, the framework aims to assess and monitor rural sanitation service delivery, ODF sustainability, visual cleanliness, and Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM). The multi-tier evaluation involves Gram Panchayats, Gram Sabhas, Village Water & Sanitation Committees, and district/state officials. Findings are validated by Gram Sabhas to strengthen community participation, transparency, accountability, and grassroot-level corrective planning.

Shri Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, participated in the G20 Energy Abundance Ministerial Meeting in Houston on September 15, 2026. He addressed ministerial sessions under Pillar 1 (Energy Security and Affordable Baseload) and Pillar 2 (Permitting and Regulatory Efficiency), highlighting India's 552 GW installed capacity, non-fossil share exceeding 50%, and digital platforms like the National Single Window System, PARIVESH, and PM Gati Shakti. Additionally, he held bilateral meetings with representatives from the United States and Canada to discuss clean energy, nuclear expansion, data center power infrastructure, and the Samundra Manthan scheme.

The Government has introduced a de minimis exemption from the Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) requirement for small-value export consignments up to ₹3 lakh by amending Para 2.57 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023 through the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). Consignments exceeding ₹3 lakh will continue to require a valid RCMC or Certificate of Registration. Historical data from 2021-22 to 2025-26 shows that low-value consignments up to USD 3,000 account for 43 percent of shipping bills but only 0.86 percent of India's total merchandise export value. The exemption aims to reduce compliance burdens, lower entry barriers for MSMEs, artisans, and first-time exporters, and facilitate low-value exports through Postal, Courier, and e-commerce channels.
