The Union Cabinet approved the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) on 25 November 2024 as a centrally‑sponsored scheme to promote chemical‑free, livestock‑integrated natural farming rooted in Indian traditional knowledge. Under the Mission, 527 Krishi Vigyan Kendras, 76 Agriculture Universities, 194 Local Natural Farming Institutes and 18 Centres of Natural Farming Institutes have been identified for cluster‑level implementation, and 33,257 Krishi Sakhis/Community Resource Persons have been trained. The scheme has formed 18,893 clusters, enrolled 2,092,657 farmers and brought 1,032,116.452 hectares under natural farming across all States/UTs. The Ministry of Women and Child Development has approved the upgrade of two lakh Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) to ‘Saksham Anganwadis’ under the centrally‑sponsored Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0. The mission, implemented across all States and UTs, integrates Anganwadi services, Poshan Abhiyaan and the adolescent‑girls scheme, targeting children under six, pregnant and lactating women, and adolescent girls (14‑18 years in Aspirational Districts and the North‑Eastern region). Upgraded AWCs will have enhanced infrastructure – LED screens, water‑filtration units, Poshan Vatika, ECCE material and BaLA paintings – and will deliver supplementary nutrition as per the revised Schedule‑II norms of the National Food Security Act (January 2023). Monitoring is digital via the ‘Poshan Tracker’ application, and community mobilisation mandates two Community‑Based Events per month.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has activated Intra‑Circle Roaming (ICR) in disaster‑hit districts of Nagaland (Longleng), Gujarat (Valsad), and the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu. Heavy rainfall, landslides and flash floods have damaged optical fibre cables and caused network outages. Under SOP‑2020 for Telecom Services in Response to Disasters and the Unified Licence provisions, ICR is in force until 23:59 hrs on 27 July 2026 or until further notice. ICR allows subscribers of any operator, including visiting in‑roamers, to use any available network where their home network is down, ensuring continuity of communication for residents, emergency responders and disaster management agencies. DoT is monitoring the situation through field units and coordinating with service providers for full network restoration.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the 3rd and 4th line (multitracking) of the Ballari‑Guntakal section spanning three districts in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The project will add about 46 km to the Indian Railways network, cost Rs 1,264 crore and is slated for completion by 2028‑29. It will link roughly 99 villages with a combined population of about seven lakh, enhance freight capacity by 16.22 MTPA, and support transport of commodities such as iron ore, limestone, coal and fertilizers. The Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Power, chaired by Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal, discussed a proposed framework for parallel distribution licensing. The scheme aims to allow multiple electricity suppliers to operate over the existing distribution network by paying regulated wheeling charges, thereby avoiding duplication of poles, lines and substations. It seeks to enhance consumer choice, improve service quality and ensure efficient utilisation of infrastructure while protecting incumbent licensees’ interests and maintaining universal service obligations under the Electricity Act, 2003. Union Environment Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav met Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini and senior state officials on 24 July 2026 to review Haryana’s Air Pollution Action Plan for the Delhi‑NCR region. The Minister urged accelerated implementation, stricter inter‑agency coordination and enforcement ahead of winter. The meeting emphasized a ‘Whole of Government’ and ‘Whole of Society’ approach.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development reports that 1,033 One Stop Centres (OSCs) have been approved under Mission Shakti, of which 985 are operational and have assisted over 15.20 lakh women from 1 April 2015 to 30 June 2026. The central government funds 100 % of staffing costs for 13 posts per OSC. To improve convergence, 657 OSCs have been linked with the Women Helpline, which is also connected to ERSS‑112 and Child Helpline (1098). OSCs are further integrated with Shakti Sadan for long‑term rehabilitation, and 575 Sakhi Niwas hostels for working women are functional nationwide.

The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has launched AI‑driven projects under the Digital Agriculture Mission, including the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) used by over 10,000 extension workers for 73 crops and 436 pests, an AI‑based monsoon and weather advisory from the India Meteorological Department that has reached about 5.28 crore farmers, and BharatVistaar – a multilingual AI‑powered digital platform that has served over 3 lakh farmers and answered more than 72 lakh queries on schemes, advisories, prices and grievances. Funds allocated for digital agriculture (including AI) rose from ₹60 crore in 2022‑23 to ₹502.40 crore in 2026‑27, with utilization increasing correspondingly. No comprehensive impact assessment of these AI initiatives has been undertaken.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched the ‘Poshan Tracker’ digital application as a governance tool for real‑time monitoring of Anganwadi Centres (AWCs), Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and beneficiaries under Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0. The app records data on AWC opening, child attendance, ECCE activities, growth monitoring, hot‑cooked meals and Take‑Home Ration (THR), and uses Aadhaar‑based facial recognition for beneficiary verification (99.88 % Aadhaar‑verified). A Nominee Module allows a designated nominee to collect THR on behalf of the beneficiary. The government funds smartphones and growth‑monitoring devices for AWWs, and the app hosts 249 ECCE videos, 190 audio messages and over 130 activity resources to support early childhood stimulation.

As of 20 July 2026, over 10.18 crore unique Digital Farmer IDs have been generated, facilitating direct benefit transfers under schemes such as PM‑Kisan, PMFBY, MSP procurement, credit, input distribution and disaster relief. Satellite‑based initiatives—YES‑TECH, smart sampling for CCEs, dispute resolution, and rapid crop‑damage assessment—are being used to improve PMFBY operations. Under the Sub‑Mission on Agriculture Mechanisation, 2,122 drones have been approved, with 1,094 drones supplied to women‑SHGs under the Namo Drone Didi Scheme and 1,555 drone pilots trained by FMTTIs. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana Rasayan (BHAVYA‑Rasayan) Scheme to set up three dedicated Chemical Parks. The scheme, announced in the FY 2026‑27 Union Budget, carries a total outlay of Rs 3,030 crore – Rs 3,000 crore for common infrastructure and basic utilities and Rs 30 crore for administration – and will run for five years (FY 2026‑27 to FY 2030‑31). The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare released an update on the National Family Health Survey (NFHS‑6, 2023‑24). Compared with NFHS‑5 (2019‑21), institutional deliveries rose to 90.6%, ANC coverage to 95.9% and skilled birth attendance to 91.3%. Contraceptive prevalence increased to 69.1% and unmet need fell to 8.5%. Full immunisation reached 87.1% and rotavirus vaccine coverage jumped to 85.4%. Stunting fell to 29.3% and severe wasting to 5.2%. Over‑weight/obesity rose to 30.7% in women and 27.3% in men, while blood‑sugar levels increased, though hypertension showed a modest decline.

As of 20 July 2026, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has created 94.87 crore ABHA IDs, registered 5.36 lakh health facilities in the Health Facility Registry and 10.09 lakh healthcare professionals in the Healthcare Professionals Registry. A third‑party evaluation (June‑August 2025) reported reduced waiting times, cost savings and better access, especially for women and underserved groups. ABDM’s Unified Health Interface (UHI) acts as a digital gateway, while ‘Privacy by Design’ ensures consent‑based data exchange, sandbox validation and security audits. The mission’s interoperable standards have been integrated with programmes such as PM‑JAY, Nikshay, RCH, NCD, TECHO, eKavach, PCTS and CMCHIS.

The Ministry of Textiles reports that cotton production fell from 352.48 lakh bales in 2020‑21 to a provisional 290.91 lakh bales in 2025‑26, while productivity remained stable between 428‑451 kg/ha. Domestic cotton (S‑6 variety) prices rose about 18% and international prices about 19% over the same period. To ensure raw cotton availability, the government exempted the 11% import duty on cotton imports from 01‑06‑2026 to 31‑10‑2026 and continued the duty exemption on Extra Long Staple (ELS) cotton since 20‑02‑2024. The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare explained that the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) operate mainly on an ‘area‑approach’ basis, with claims calculated from state‑submitted Crop Cutting Experiments (CCE) and, where applicable, YES‑TECH yield estimates. For localized hazards such as hailstorms, landslides, inundation, cloud‑burst, natural fire and post‑harvest cyclone‑related losses, claims are settled on an individual‑farm basis by a joint committee of the state government and the insurer. The government has launched the National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP) and a ‘Digiclaim’ module integrated with PFMS to enable electronic enrolment, data sharing, and timely claim transfers. From Kharif 2024, a 12 % penalty is auto‑imposed on insurers for delayed payments, and from Kharif 2025 similar penalties apply to states for delayed subsidy releases. Additional measures include mandatory escrow accounts for state premium shares, the Crop Loss Assessment App (CLAP) for localized calamities, and integration of land‑records and remote‑sensing data to improve claim settlement speed.

The Ministry of Railways has set up Dedicated Environment & Housekeeping Management (EnHM) departments at Divisions, Zonal Railways and the Railway Board to oversee waste‑management matters. Indian Railways has commissioned 13 biogas plants (5,095 kg/day), 171 composting plants (24,817 kg/day), 8 material‑recovery facilities (7,725 kg/day) and 858 plastic‑bottle crushing machines. An SOP on Solid Waste Management, aligned with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and Supreme Court directions, has been issued covering stations, trains, colonies and other establishments. On‑board Housekeeping Service is operational in 1,450 long‑distance train pairs, and the Clean Train Station scheme is active at 63 stations serving 2,800 trains.
