India and the United Kingdom conducted their 25th Defence Consultative Group (DCG) Meeting in New Delhi, co-chaired by India's Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh and the UK's Permanent Under Secretary for Defence, Mr Jeremy Pocklington. The meeting reviewed ongoing defence industrial cooperation under the India-UK Vision 2035 and the Ten-Year Defence Industrial Roadmap, with an emphasis on Research & Development. The Territorial Army, in collaboration with CyberPeace, has launched 'Terrier Cyber Quest 2026' (TCQ 3.0), which is a national-level hackathon. The initiative aims to develop innovative solutions for contemporary defence, cybersecurity, and information-domain challenges. It brings together technical talent from academia, industry, research institutions, government organisations, and the Armed Forces. The competition focuses on emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, threat mitigation, digital awareness, and indigenous solutions for national security. It features three tracks: Bug Hunting, AI Kavach, and Creators Challenge. Registrations are open until August 31, 2026, with the Grand Finale scheduled in New Delhi from October 6 to 8, 2026.

The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a $230 million loan for the Chennai Climate-Resilient Water Security and Sewerage Project. The project aims to modernise and expand Chennai’s water supply and sanitation infrastructure, improve public health, and strengthen resilience to climate change. Key interventions include constructing over 170 km of water supply and sewer pipes, upgrading water and sewer pumping stations, making Chennai the first Indian city to implement a comprehensive ring-main solution for water supply, and digitally transforming services with advanced technologies for real-time monitoring and worker safety. The initiative aligns with the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 and the Urban Challenge Fund.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways inaugurated seven infrastructure projects worth ₹427.80 crore at Paradip Port Authority in Odisha, achieving 18.5-metre deep-draft capability to handle fully laden Capesize vessels. Concession agreements worth ₹1,580.36 crore were signed for three berth mechanisation projects targeting 100% mechanisation by 2030. The projects encompass capital dredging, the Atharbanki bridge, sports infrastructure, administrative upgrades, piped natural gas supply, and an advanced Vessel Traffic Management and Information System developed with IIT Madras. Additionally, the port marked its one-millionth tree plantation milestone and highlighted Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives focused on youth skill development and sustainable fishing practices.

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry reported that a total of 29 Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) investments worth ₹4,895.65 crore have been reported under the revised framework up to 20 August 2026. These investments span sectors such as Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals, Data Centres, and Transport Services, originating from jurisdictions including Mauritius, the United States, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Singapore, Luxembourg, and the Cayman Islands. The revised framework, introduced via Press Note 2 of 2026 and amendments to the Foreign Exchange Management (Non-debt Instruments) Rules, 2019, facilitates investments with non-controlling beneficial ownership from land-bordering countries of up to 10% through the automatic route, removing prior government approval requirements.

The 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting was held in Pune, Maharashtra, under India's Chairship, led by Union Minister of Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia. The ICT Track under India's Chairship was introduced with the theme "Innovate, Cooperate and Transform (ICT) for a Resilient Future", anchored on four pillars: sustainable and resilient digital and ICT ecosystems, cybersecurity and trustworthy ICT, digital skilling and capacity building, and innovation, startups, and entrepreneurship. India and Brazil signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in telecommunications and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The signing took place on the sidelines of the BRICS ICT Track Meeting (also referred to as the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting) in Pune by Union Minister of Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Brazil's Minister of Communications, H.E. Mr. Frederico de Siqueira Filho. The MoU establishes a framework for regular information exchange, sharing experiences, and best practices in areas such as universal connectivity, cybersecurity, Digital Public Infrastructure, AI, 5G and 6G, Open RAN, IoT, satellite management, and digital inclusion, grounded in principles of equality and mutual benefit.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution has detailed measures to curb recent domestic sugar price rises and ensure adequate availability ahead of the festive season. Sugar prices rose from ₹48.18 per kg on 20 July 2026 to ₹55.70 per kg on 20 August 2026 due to factors like lower domestic production (estimated at 306 LMT compared to an initial 343 LMT), weather damage, crop diseases, global tightening, and hoarding. The government clarified that the price increase is unrelated to ethanol diversion, noting that nearly three-fourths of ethanol now comes from grains. To counter hoarding and increase supply, the government has imposed stock limits on dealers and bulk consumers, initiated physical verification of stocks, permitted duty-free import of 10 LMT of raw sugar, and advised early crushing from 15 October 2026.

The 14th meeting of the India-Nepal Joint Working Group (JWG) was held on 20–21 August 2026 in Dehradun. The Indian delegation was led by Ms. Pausumi Basu, Joint Secretary (BM-I), Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Nepali delegation was led by Mr. Ananda Kafle, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs. The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) organised the 20th National e-Governance Webinar focusing on Government Process Re-engineering for digital transformation at the central level. The webinar showcased two National Award-winning initiatives under the National Awards for e-Governance 2026: AgriStack by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare (Gold Award) and e-Jagriti by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and National Informatics Centre (Silver Award). AgriStack serves as a Digital Public Infrastructure for agricultural governance, utilizing core registries like the Farmers’ Registry, Crop Sown Registry, and Geo-referenced Village Maps. Meanwhile, e-Jagriti provides a unified national digital ecosystem for consumer dispute resolution across National, State, and District Consumer Commissions by replacing legacy systems with end-to-end digital workflows.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the National Road Safety Board (NRSB) held an institutional meeting in New Delhi to review and strengthen road safety systems across the National Highway network. The meeting focused on establishing a structured framework for sustained collaboration to improve safety standards and reduce accidents. Discussions covered current safety management practices, highway engineering, black spot management, Intelligent Transport Systems, and emergency response mechanisms. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh delivered the inaugural address at the 14th BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Ministerial Meeting in Chennai. The National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) is organizing its 32nd Foundation Day event in New Delhi, with the participation of around 900 Safai Karamcharis, government representatives, and other stakeholders. The event focuses on the dignity, welfare, safety, rehabilitation, and social security of Safai Karamcharis, alongside the promotion of mechanized sanitation and the elimination of hazardous manual cleaning. During the programme, the Commission is set to release an NCSK Missed-Call Facility Number to assist stakeholders in registering grievances, issues, and representations for time-bound resolution. The release also outlines the statutory mandate and scope of the NCSK under the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Act and The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and Their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.

The National Statistics Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), released the Quarterly Bulletin of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (QBUSE) for the April–June 2026 survey period. The bulletin provides high-frequency estimates derived from the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE). According to the release, the estimated number of unincorporated establishments grew by 9.20% year-on-year to 8.67 crore, while total employment reached 13.70 crore. The services sector emerged as a major driver of employment growth, and women accounted for over 30% of total employment. Additionally, the survey highlights progress in digital adoption, with roughly 80% of establishments utilizing cashless modes of transactions, alongside an increase in formal enterprise registrations.

The BRICS Tourism Ministers’ Meeting concluded in Jaipur under India's Chairship, resulting in the adoption of the BRICS Tourism Ministers’ Communiqué 2026, also known as the Jaipur Declaration. Chaired by the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, the meeting operated under the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability" with participation from nine BRICS member states. The declaration focuses on four thematic priorities: Artificial Intelligence and Tourism; Sustainability and Responsible Tourism; Tourism Skilling and Capacity Building; and Tourism Exchanges and Seamless Travel Facilitation. Union Minister Smt. Annpurna Devi chaired a Consultative Committee meeting of the Ministry of Women and Child Development in Kolkata, focusing on the key components of Mission Shakti: One Stop Centres (OSC), Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), and SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW). Mission Shakti is structured under 'Sambal' and 'Samarthya' sub-schemes for women's safety, security, and empowerment. India is hosting the BRICS Youth Ministers’ Meeting and the BRICS Sports Ministers’ Meeting in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on August 22 and 23, 2026, under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026. Chaired by Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the events bring together delegates from 11 BRICS member countries. The meetings operate under India's theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”. The Youth Ministers' Meeting focuses on education, skills, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development, culminating in the BRICS Youth Ministerial Joint Declaration and Youth Cooperation Framework. The Sports Ministers' Meeting focuses on traditional sports, sports technology, and manufacturing, concluding with a Sports Joint Declaration alongside a BRICS Friendship Cycling Event and bilateral meetings.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare organised a two-day National Conference of Ministry, Department and Organisations (MDOs) in New Delhi, in collaboration with the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), Capacity Building Commission (CBC), and Karmayogi Bharat. The event aimed to strengthen organisational capacity for the implementation of Mission Karmayogi by promoting a 'whole-of-government' approach across 140 participating institutes under DoHFW.
