Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, addressed the 20th Rozgar Mela in Chennai, where more than 51,000 candidates across the country received appointment letters. Highlighting that around 12.75 lakh youth have received appointment letters cumulatively through the nationwide initiative, the Minister exhorted new recruits to maintain integrity, empathy, and continuous learning in public service. He also detailed India's growth in areas such as mobile manufacturing, infrastructure, railway electrification, indigenous defence exports, and digital governance since 2014.

The Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying administered the Swachhata Pledge on 17th September 2026 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Led by Secretary Dr Abhilaksh Likhi and attended by over 1,000 participants including officials, fishermen, and industry representatives, the hybrid event marked the beginning of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign running from 17 September to 2 October 2026. The observance focused on promoting cleanliness, hygiene, reducing pendency, improving record management, and fostering a citizen-centric work culture under the Swachh Bharat Mission vision.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the approximately 8.9-kilometre Indora Chowk-Dighori Flyover on National Highway No. 353D in Nagpur. Built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at a cost of about ₹1,000 crore, the project uses Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) technology to enable longer spans between piers and reduce construction time. The infrastructure reduces travel time between Indora and Dighori from one hour to 10-15 minutes and incorporates ramps, an elevated passage over the Metro corridor, and aesthetic features. During the inauguration, it was also announced that the flyover would be named after Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released district-level key labour market indicators for the first time through the National Statistical Office (NSO), based on a revamped sampling design of the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) adopted from January 2025. The survey estimates indicate that around 57.8% of districts recorded a female Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) of 40% or above, while the Worker Population Ratio (WPR) of the top 50% populous districts ranges from 37.3% to 76.7%. Furthermore, estimates for LFPR and WPR for about 98.8% and 98.3% of districts respectively fall within the 40–80% range, and more than 75% of districts recorded NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) rates under 30%. The revamped PLFS design considers districts as basic strata to facilitate district-level estimates and shifts reporting to a calendar year cycle.

Day 2 of SEMICON India 2026, held at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, witnessed 25 key announcements and collaborations spanning manufacturing, materials, logistics, chip design, advanced packaging, power electronics, and workforce development. Union Minister for Electronics and IT Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted strong global participation, investment interest, and sustainability measures such as water recycling in semiconductor fabs and closed-loop cooling in data centres. Key partnerships involved entities like Tata Electronics, L&T Semiconductor Technologies, C-MET, NIELIT, C-DAC, and the India Semiconductor Mission, alongside the launch of India's first indigenous System-on-Module, 'ISC-VEGA-SOM.'

Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology stated at SEMICON India 2026 that India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 1.0 achieved its foundational goals ahead of schedule in four years. ISM 2.0 will focus on six key pillars: Design, Materials and Machines, More Fabs, More ATMP units, R&D, and Talent. Five semiconductor manufacturing plants have commenced commercial production, with chips being exported alongside domestic supply. India has trained around 70,000 design engineers in four years across 400 engineering colleges and provided over 105 chip design startups with access to EDA tools. The precision manufacturing ecosystem, supported by MSMEs, is expanding to serve sectors like electronics, aerospace, defense, and semiconductors. The next phase of skilling will expand into system design, cleanroom maintenance, and applied R&D.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed the Regional Agriculture Conference for the Southern States in Hyderabad. The conference focused on food security, farmers' livelihoods, nutritional security, crop diversification, and preparations for the upcoming Rabi season. Discussions also covered the impact of El Niño, the horticulture potential of southern states including coconut, cashew, cocoa, and spices, and utilizing Free Trade Agreements for global market access. The Minister emphasized Centre-State coordination, collaborative policy formulation, reviewing outdated laws, and the release of funds for constructing two lakh houses in Telangana under PMAY-G.

Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, delivered the inaugural address at the Jindal Policy Conclave, stating that India's creative economy is emerging as a growth frontier. He noted that the creative economy contributes 3.1 percent to global GDP and 6.2 percent to global employment, with approximately 57 million Indians engaged in cultural and creative occupations, while India's media and entertainment economy stands at ₹2.5 trillion. He highlighted that the AVGC sector is expected to require nearly 2 million skilled professionals by 2030. To equip youth with future-ready skills, the government supports the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies and AVGC Creator Labs across 15,000 schools and 500 colleges. He also emphasized the need for legal and policy frameworks including copyright protection, fair compensation, and responsible AI use.

The India–Nepal Inter-Governmental Sub-Committee (IGSC) on Trade, Transit and Cooperation to Control Unauthorised Trade met in New Delhi on 16–17 September 2026. Led by the Joint Secretary of India's Department of Commerce and the Joint Secretary of Nepal's Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the meeting reviewed bilateral trade, transit, and economic cooperation. Both sides discussed market access, Customs automation, electronic verification of Certificates of Origin, border infrastructure, rail and road connectivity, food safety, standards, and pharmaceuticals. Discussions also emphasized strengthening cooperation to prevent unauthorized trade and commercial fraud while facilitating legitimate cross-border commerce. India remains Nepal's largest trading partner and an important investment source.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare commemorated World Patient Safety Day 2026 at NIHFW, New Delhi, with the theme “Safe Care for Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs)”. The event highlighted that nearly 63 percent of deaths in India are attributed to NCDs, making patient safety critical across the continuum of care. Officials stressed the importance of quality assurance, setting a target for 100 percent NQAS certification of Ayushman Aarogya Mandir–Sub Health Centres by March 2027. The observance featured a National Patient Safety Pledge, technical discussions on medication safety, digital health, and state-led innovations such as Jharkhand's geriatric screening, Kerala's Hridhyaragam initiative, and Rajasthan's SETU online referral application.

The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises celebrated the third anniversary of the PM Vishwakarma scheme in Kolkata, West Bengal, marking the state's onboarding to the scheme in May 2026. Government officials highlighted that 30 lakh beneficiaries have registered under the scheme since its launch on September 17, 2023. Of these, approximately 24.50 lakh have received basic skill training, 18.15 lakh have received modern toolkits through India Post, and 6.18 lakh have received loans up to ₹1 lakh at a 5 percent per annum concessional interest rate, totaling ₹5,297 crore. The scheme provides support through skill training, modern tools, institutional credit, and market linkages to empower traditional artisans and craftspeople.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) handed over two Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Final Operational Clearance (FOC) Twin Seater Trainers and three HTT-40 Basic Trainers to the Indian Air Force, alongside four Dhruv Next Generation (NG) helicopters to Pawan Hans Limited in Bengaluru. Held in the presence of the Raksha Mantri and the Civil Aviation Minister, the event highlights India's push towards indigenous aerospace capabilities, self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta), and public-private synergy across both military and civil aviation sectors.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh led a coastal clean-up drive at Juhu Beach, Mumbai, on the eve of International Coastal Cleanup Day, highlighting India's unexplored ocean wealth and the Deep Ocean Mission as a torchbearer of the Blue Economy. The 'Swachh Sagar Surakshit Sagar' campaign, which began in 2022 during India's 75th year of Independence, has expanded from a 75-day inter-ministerial initiative into an annual nationwide movement conducted from September 12 to 19. The campaign mobilizes central agencies, state governments, coastal states and union territories, students, NGOs, volunteers, and public figures to tackle marine litter, reduce plastic pollution, and promote ocean conservation through initiatives like the Sagar Prahari platform.

The BIMSTEC Energy Centre organised a five-day capacity building programme on new and emerging technologies in the power sector from 14 to 18 September 2026 in Bengaluru, under the aegis of India's Ministry of Power. Held in hybrid mode, the initiative brought together participants from all seven BIMSTEC Member States—Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand—to foster technical capacity building, knowledge sharing, and regional energy cooperation. The curriculum covered advanced generation, transmission, distribution, and end-use technologies such as green hydrogen, battery energy storage, smart grids, artificial intelligence in power systems, and small modular reactors, alongside industrial visits to major power facilities in Bengaluru.

The 25th Meeting of SCO Ministers Responsible for Foreign Economic and Trade Activities was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on 17 September 2026. Representing India, Shri Yashvir Singh emphasized the economic potential of the SCO and presented three pillars—Security, Connectivity, and Opportunity—to enhance intra-SCO trade, lower trade costs, and build resilient supply chains. India advocated for trade facilitation through digitalisation, simplified customs procedures, and paperless trade, alongside cooperation in agriculture, critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, electronics, and energy security. Furthermore, India highlighted the need for digital payments, trade finance for MSMEs and start-ups, and support for a rules-based multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core. The meeting adopted a ministerial statement, agreed on an Action Plan for 2026–2030, and approved regulations for a Special Working Group on the Creative Economy.

The Government has relaxed the sugar stockholding limit for bulk consumers from 15 days to 30 days, subject to the condition that the additional stock beyond 15 days is sourced exclusively from imported sugar under the Advance Authorisation Scheme (AAS) and Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ). Open market purchase limits remain restricted to 15 days. Bulk consumers must declare and weekly disclose sugar stocks on the Department of Food and Public Distribution's online portal. Meanwhile, retail sugar prices have declined by around 10% from their peak, though ex-mill prices fell by nearly 25%, prompting the Government to urge traders and wholesalers to fully pass on price reductions to consumers. Additionally, the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane will be ₹365 per quintal starting October 1, 2026.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has amended the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2018 to strengthen enforcement and consumer protection against Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC) and telecom resource misuse. The amendments mandate Telecom Service Providers to leverage AI/ML-based detection systems to identify suspected spam senders, introduce a framework to regulate Application-to-Person voice calls, and establish a consumer appeal mechanism. Additionally, the new framework tightens rules around inquiry-based commercial communications, expands the definition of explicit consent to include verifiable legacy consents, sets strict timelines against the misuse of headers and content templates, and restricts call management applications from blanket-blocking or mislabeling designated commercial and government numbering series.

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change held a review meeting with the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and senior officials in Lucknow to assess Uttar Pradesh's Air Pollution Action Plan for Delhi-NCR. The discussions focused on pre-winter season preparations and emission-mitigation measures, including road dust management through mechanical sweeping and geo-tagging, promotion of electric mobility and EV charging infrastructure, phasing out and scientific scrapping of end-of-life vehicles, implementation of the 'No PUCC, No Fuel' initiative via automatic number plate recognition, and industrial pollution control. Other areas reviewed included construction and demolition waste management, legacy waste liquidation, crop residue management machinery procurement to address stubble burning, and a whole-of-society approach involving public participation.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi received a telephone call from UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who conveyed birthday greetings. During the discussion, both leaders explored new measures to deepen the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across sectors such as energy, defence, technology, investment, and health. The UAE President also congratulated the Prime Minister on India's successful BRICS Presidency, while the Prime Minister appreciated the UAE's cooperation and the participation of Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), in collaboration with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), organized a three-day PVS–PPP Targeted Support Workshop on “FMD-Free Zone Development in India” in New Delhi from September 15–17, 2026. The workshop focused on strengthening State Action Plans, Public–Private Partnerships, and aligning national efforts with WOAH standards to achieve Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) freedom by 2030. Discussions covered large-scale vaccination under the Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme, surveillance, animal identification, traceability, and the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Infrastructure in India.
