The Ministry of Jal Shakti’s National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) is integrating Nature‑based Solutions (NbS) into its river‑rejuvenation strategy. Under the Sustainable River Rejuvenation programme, two pilot constructed‑wetland projects at Shastri Park Drain and Kailash Nagar Drain (combined capacity ~10 MLD) are being implemented to treat urban‑drain wastewater before it enters the Yamuna. The wetlands use stone masonry, rock filters, aquatic vegetation and phytoremediation to improve water quality with lower energy and operational costs. Concurrently, NMCG’s Knowledge Sharing and Development Centre conducted six capacity‑building programmes (Aug 2025‑Mar 2026) for over 100 officials from agencies such as the Yamuna Task Force and State Mission for Clean Ganga, enhancing technical expertise for NbS deployment.

The Prime Minister's Office announced the Australia‑India Partnership on Cyber, Critical Technologies and Supply Chains (PACTS), which supersedes the 2020 Framework. PACTS will operate under five inter‑related pillars – supply‑chain resilience, critical technology, cybersecurity, digital resilience and defence research – with senior officials from both countries overseeing implementation. The partnership aims to make supply chains more secure and diversified, promote joint research and standards in AI, space, biotech and advanced materials, strengthen cyber‑security cooperation, scale digital public infrastructure across the Indo‑Pacific, and deepen defence‑science collaboration. Coordination will be led by senior officials from the Australian Deputy Secretary International and Security Group and the Indian Deputy National Security Advisor, with annual senior‑official meetings to review progress.

The Joint Statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on 9 July 2026 reaffirms India and Australia’s commitment to energy security within the Indo‑Pacific. Both countries will deepen bilateral energy trade and investment through the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA), the ongoing Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) and other frameworks, recognising Australia as a key LNG supplier and India as a supplier of liquid fuels. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Economic Roadmap Business Reception, highlighted the deepening India‑Australia partnership. He noted that the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) signed in 2022 has doubled India’s exports to Australia. The PM reiterated India’s renewable‑energy target of 500 GW by 2030, the nuclear‑energy target of 100 GW by 2047, and cited the SHANTI Act that opened nuclear power to private firms. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai, in a joint operation supported by the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), rescued 53 protected animals and birds—including 15 Slow Loris, 2 Binturong, 28 Star Tortoises, 6 Egyptian Vultures and 2 Shikra—from Maharashtra and West Bengal. Six accused were arrested (three in Mumbai, three in Kolkata) after intelligence identified an interstate wildlife‑trafficking syndicate. Two cases were registered on 7‑8 July 2026 under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and Criminal Conspiracy provisions of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The rescued wildlife was handed over to the respective state forest departments for safe custody.

Three women‑led Self‑Help Groups (Matsyakanya SHG – Gavhan, Raigad; Vishwakarma SHG – Shirgaon, Ratnagiri; Shri Siddhi Vinayak SHG – Chatale, Palghar) from Maharashtra displayed value‑added seafood products at Seafood Expo Bharat 2026 in Chennai (July 1‑3). Their participation was under the Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities (ECRICC) project, led by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change with support from the Green Climate Fund and UNDP India; the Maharashtra Forest Department’s Mangrove Cell is the nodal agency. The Quality Council of India (QCI) and the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create a collaborative ecosystem that enhances quality, competitiveness and market access for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The MoU integrates the ZED Certification Scheme, MSME Global Mart, the TEAM Initiative and the Single Point Registration Scheme, aiming to expand digital commerce via ONDC, strengthen testing and accreditation (NABL, NABET) and provide capacity‑building programmes. A Joint Coordination Committee will meet quarterly for five years to monitor progress. The partnership aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and seeks to foster globally competitive Indian MSMEs.

The 29th meeting of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) was convened on 9 July 2026 at the Central Academy for State Forest Service, Coimbatore, and chaired by Union Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav. Attended by MPs, senior ministry officials, chief wildlife wardens and field directors, the meeting reviewed the NTCA’s 2024‑25 Annual Report and the Action‑Taken Report of the 28th meeting, and approved the 6th Cycle of the Management Effectiveness Evaluation of Tiger Reserves. The Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, chaired the 91st meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife (SC‑NBWL) in Coimbatore. The Committee reviewed progress on earlier NBWL directions, reaffirmed a science‑based approach to wildlife conservation, and examined more than 100 development proposals—including roads, defence infrastructure, pipelines and renewable energy projects—that require clearance under the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972. Key species‑specific strategies discussed were the Greater One‑horned Rhinoceros DNA indexing system, the Great Indian Bustard conservation plan, and the inclusion of the Pygmy Hog in the Species Recovery Programme. The Committee emphasized ecological impact assessment, mitigation measures, and the need to balance national development with wildlife habitat protection.

Union Health Minister Shri J P Nadda reviewed AIIMS Bibinagar, an Institute of National Importance set up under Phase‑VII of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana in 2019. The project, started in June 2022, has so far cost ₹1,110.55 crore, with about 87.4 % of construction (≈₹902 crore) completed, including 250‑bed inpatient facilities, emergency services, CT/MRI/DEXA labs and a forthcoming Cath Lab. The institute serves ~1,800 out‑patients daily, runs 24 MD and five DM/MCh programmes, and hosts 902 students. It has adopted six villages, held 547 mobile medical camps, benefitted 66,148 patients via RHTC/UHTC, and secured ₹64 crore in research grants across 129 projects.

The Union Health Minister, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, will lay the foundation stone of the ICMR Centre for High Altitude Medicine and Public Health Research at Keylong, Lahaul & Spiri, Himachal Pradesh on 11 July 2026. Set up by the Indian Council of Medical Research under the Department of Health Research, the centre will upgrade the existing field station into a multidisciplinary hub covering high‑altitude physiology, mountain medicine, climate‑sensitive and emerging diseases, maternal‑child health, nutrition, mental health, environmental and occupational health, and disaster medicine. It will integrate digital health platforms, tele‑medicine, drone‑enabled logistics and real‑time surveillance, and collaborate with the Armed Forces Medical Services, DRDO, the state government and academic institutions, advancing climate‑resilient health research and the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, who holds independent charge of Science & Technology, the Department of Atomic Energy and other portfolios, addressed the 15th graduation ceremony of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) in Bhubaneswar. He highlighted that the institute, under the Department of Atomic Energy reporting directly to the Prime Minister, serves as a custodian of India’s scientific legacy envisioned by Homi Bhabha. The Minister noted recent milestones such as the commissioning of the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor, the current nuclear power capacity of 8,780 MW and the target of 22,380 MW by 2032, and the development of four Rare‑Earth Corridors, including one in Odisha. He linked these developments to the national goals of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ and Net‑Zero, and praised the role of NEP‑2020 in fostering interdisciplinary scientific education.

The Union Environment Minister, Shri Bhupender Yadav, presided over the 28th meeting of the reconstituted Wildlife Institute of India (WII) Society at the Central Academy for State Forest Service, Coimbatore, on 9 July 2026. This was the first meeting after the Society’s three‑year reconstitution following the expiry of earlier members’ terms in April 2026. Yadav stressed the need to align WII’s research, training and policy‑support frameworks with the ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’ vision, prioritising human‑wildlife conflict resolution, technology‑driven management and capacity building. The meeting featured Director Dr G.S. Bhardwaj’s review of achievements, an Action Taken Report, and participation of newly nominated members, ex‑officio MPs, state ministers and senior officials.

The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) carried out an "Operation Clean Air" inspection on 08‑07‑2026, deploying ten Flying Squads to examine 79 road stretches (≈13 km) under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Seventy‑eight stretches showed end‑to‑end paving, meeting the Standard Framework for Paving and Greening of Urban Roads issued on 07‑01‑2025, while one stretch was still under construction. The Commission noted that proper paving helps curb road‑dust emissions, a major source of particulate pollution, and urged timely completion and maintenance of the remaining work. Earlier, a 18‑06‑2026 inspection of PWD roads revealed gaps in paving, underscoring the need for broader compliance.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) amended two footwear Quality Control Orders (QCOs) – the Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (2024) and the Footwear made from All Rubber and all Polymeric Material (2024) – via S.O. 3038(E) and S.O. 3037(E) on 12 June 2026. The amendments extend the legacy‑stock clearance deadline from 31 July 2026 to 31 July 2027 and permit manufacturers to import up to 4,500 pairs of footwear samples annually for research and development, provided they are marked “NOT FOR SALE”, not sold commercially, and disposed of after use. Records of such imports must be maintained. The changes aim to ease compliance, support product innovation and align with the Make in India and “Zero Defect, Zero Effect” initiatives.

The Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, visited Puducherry on 8–9 July 2026 to review the implementation of the Ministry’s flagship schemes. He chaired a review meeting with officials from the Ministry, the Government of Puducherry, NSIC, SIDBI, the State Level Bankers’ Committee and MSME associations, focusing on schemes such as PMEGP, PM Vishwakarma, CGTMSE, MSME‑LEAN, MSME‑ZED, RAMP, PMS, IPR and CHAMPIONS.
