The Minister highlighted that accurate, secure time supports consumer protection, fair trade, cyber‑resilience, reliable financial markets, telecommunications, power systems and digital governance, and aligns with the “One Nation, One Time” initiative for indigenous, resilient digital infrastructure.

Operation Sindoor was presented by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as evidence of India’s enhanced defence readiness under the ‘Nation First’ and ‘Forces First’ agenda. The Minister highlighted that defence production reached about Rs 1.78 lakh crore in FY 2025‑26, with a target of Rs 2 lakh crore this year and Rs 3 lakh crore by 2029. Defence exports have risen to Rs 38,000 crore, aiming for Rs 50,000 crore by 2029. Procurement from start‑ups and MSMEs exceeds Rs 2,400 crore, with Rs 1,500 crore in new‑technology projects and 676 start‑ups engaged (551 contracts). The government proposes Rs 70,000 crore for defence corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, of which Rs 10,000 crore is already invested. Five positive indigenisation lists covering 509 items (defence forces) and five lists covering 5,012 items (DPSUs) have been issued.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, organised a flag‑off ceremony on 16 July 2026 and facilitated the first export of premium Areko cherries (high‑density European sweet cherries) and Scentrose plums from Shopian and Pulwama districts of Jammu & Kashmir to Singapore. The consignment was harvested, graded, packed and shipped via a cold‑chain system complying with international food‑safety and phytosanitary standards. APEDA expects the move to give growers over 50 % higher returns, promote scientific cultivation and post‑harvest practices, reduce losses and create sustainable livelihoods, while diversifying India’s horticultural export markets.

On 18 July 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 75 redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, marking the second nationwide dedication after the 103 stations dedicated on 22 May 2025. The stations span 20 states and were redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 1,570 crore. The scheme, launched in December 2022, aims to modernise 1,340 stations across the country; to date, 261 stations have been completed. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) reported a series of intelligence‑driven operations across India between 15‑17 July 2026 that seized a total of 15 kg foreign‑origin gold and 20 kg silver, valued at approximately ₹22 crore, along with cash of ₹2.20 crore. Arrests totalled 13 persons. The DRI emphasised the threat posed by compromised airport staff.

During an official visit to Estonia, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal addressed the India–Estonia Business Forum in Tallinn, urging deeper collaboration in trade, investment, innovation and technology. The forum, attended by senior government officials including Estonia’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, industry leaders and business delegations, highlighted India’s economic transformation over the past two decades, its expanding manufacturing base, vibrant innovation ecosystem and progressive reforms. The National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) held a high‑level meeting at the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to review sanitation workers’ conditions. The Ministry of Cooperation, led by Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, will perform the Bhoomi Pujan of the Amul Bengal Dairy Project – the world’s largest curd production plant – in Kolkata on 19 July 2026. The project involves an investment of about ₹700 crore and will process roughly 30 lakh litres of milk daily, producing 10 lakh kilograms of curd and other cultured dairy products. Over 1.25 lakh milk‑producing farmers (including 30,000 women) in West Bengal will benefit. The Aadhaar App has achieved 40 million (4 crore) downloads, signalling strong resident trust in digital identity services. Since its launch, the app has facilitated 11.65 lakh address updates, 49 lakh mobile‑number updates and, after the email‑update feature was introduced on 1 July, about 12.5 lakh email additions or changes – the latter being offered free of charge until 31 Dec 2026. The biometric lock/unlock facility has been used more than 19.1 million (1.91 crore) times, enhancing user control over personal data. The platform is positioned as a one‑stop, privacy‑first solution aligning with the Digital India Mission’s aim of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.

The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has announced that the Approved List of Models & Manufacturers (ALMM) List‑II policy for solar PV cells will not be altered, and no blanket extension will be given to solar projects. However, a limited exemption allowing net‑metering and open‑access renewable energy projects to commission without complying with ALMM List‑II has been extended to 31 December 2026 (previously it ended on 31 May 2026). The move aims to protect existing inventories of standalone solar PV module manufacturers and give them time to transition to ALMM‑listed solar cell suppliers, while supporting the government’s goal of self‑reliant solar PV manufacturing.

On 18 July 2026 the Ministry of Railways reported that a second Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) has begun excavating the under‑sea portion of the Mumbai‑Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor beneath Thane Creek, Maharashtra. The project includes a 10 km stretch, of which 7 km will be undersea, marking India’s first rail undersea tunnel. The TBM, a 13.6 m diameter, 3,200‑tonne Mixshield‑type machine, employs slurry‑based pressurised bentonite to stabilise the face and features real‑time multi‑gas monitoring and extensive safety systems. The launch required a 39‑m deep shaft and integrates advanced segment‑ring building and monitoring technologies to ensure structural integrity and minimise surface settlement.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) conducted intelligence‑led operations in four states, seizing 15 kg of methamphetamine tablets, about 4 kg of pseudoephedrine, roughly 85 lakh foreign‑made Gold Flake cigarettes worth ₹20 crore, and two Pakistan‑made pistols dropped by drone. Arrests were made under the NDPS Act, 1985 and the Arms Act, 1959: one person in Mizoram, four in Chennai and additional arrests linked to the other seizures. The operations highlight DRI’s focus on curbing organised smuggling, narcotics trafficking, illicit tobacco trade and cross‑border arms movement.

Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually flagged off the Ramnagar‑Dehradun Express, the first direct express train linking Ramnagar and Dehradun and operating on Wednesdays and Fridays. The service (train 15310/15309) will halt at Kashipur, Roshanpur, Pipalsana, Moradabad, Najibabad and Haridwar, and will run with AC Second Class, AC Third Class, AC Chair Car, Sleeper, Second Sitting and General coaches. The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, has launched the India Post Mascot Design Contest on the Innovate India MyGov platform. Open to all Indian citizens, participants must submit an original mascot design, a name, and a brief concept note between 15 July and 15 August 2026. The Prime Minister expressed grief over a mishap at a fireworks factory in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and said the local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected.
