NHAI Introduces New Guidelines for Design and Development of Access-Controlled High-Speed National Highways
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, has introduced new comprehensive guidelines for the planning, design, and development of access-controlled High-Speed National Highways (other than Expressways). Aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the guidelines aim to establish a uniform framework for Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), address variations in technical standards, and support the development of 50,000 km of access-controlled high-speed corridors. The framework standardizes lane configurations and widths based on traffic volume assessments, mandates interchanges at major intersections and traffic hubs, and prescribes a 1-metre-high boundary wall to prevent unauthorized access and encroachments.
