The Ministry of Education notes that the Supreme Court, in its judgment dated 01‑09‑2025, affirmed that the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is a minimum qualification under Section 23 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, and is mandatory for appointments in schools covered by the Act. The Court later extended the deadline for acquiring TET qualification from 31‑08‑2027 to 31‑08‑2028 in its judgment dated 29‑05‑2026. The same judgment directed that appropriate governments conduct TET periodically, preferably twice a year with a six‑month gap, to give eligible teachers reasonable opportunity to meet the requirement. Vice Admiral Manish Chadha, AVSM, VSM, assumed charge as Director General Naval Operations on 3 August 2026. The Ministry of Power, through the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), has expanded its regional testing infrastructure in Maharashtra. With the state government’s support, CPRI operates a Regional Unit in Nagpur and has newly operationalised a Regional Testing Laboratory (RTL) in Nashik, equipped for short‑circuit testing of transformers and switchgear, energy‑meter testing, and transformer‑oil analysis. These facilities provide nationally accredited testing, certification, research and consultancy services to power utilities and manufacturers, enabling them to ensure quality, safety, reliability and regulatory compliance of electrical equipment in transmission and distribution networks. CPRI plans further expansion of regional labs based on state‑government requests, demand assessment and techno‑economic feasibility, as stated by Minister of State for Power Shri Shripad Naik in the Rajya Sabha.

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has issued a draft notification to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, establishing a regulatory framework for two‑wheeled road ambulances. The proposal introduces AIS‑209 (Part 1):2026, which sets construction and functional safety standards—including vehicle stability, braking, emergency lights, patient‑handling systems, and fitness inspection every two years—for L2‑category two‑wheeled ambulances manufactured on or after 1 Oct 2027. The framework aims to enhance safety, accountability, and faster emergency response, especially in rural, remote, and hilly terrains where conventional ambulances face mobility constraints. Public comments are invited for 30 days before finalisation.

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs launched an upgraded version of the National Youth Parliament Scheme (NYPS) web portal, NYPS 2.0, on 11 September 2024. He received the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2025) and Vishisht Seiva Medal (2017).

The Government approved the Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana (PM‑SSY) on 31 July 2026, allocating ₹5,070 crore to develop 5,000 MW of floating solar photovoltaic (FSPV) projects with co‑located energy storage (minimum 10,000 MWh). The scheme, based on a National Institute of Solar Energy assessment, targets a floating solar potential of 102.18 GWp, aims to cut CO₂ emissions by about 10 million tonnes annually and generate 16,000–17,000 jobs, while promoting domestic manufacturing of floatation systems, PV modules and storage. It will raise India’s floating solar capacity from roughly 700 MW to 5,700 MW and help states manage peak demand, reducing pressure on land resources. The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) has disbursed Rs 8.22 crore as an access‑and‑benefit‑sharing (ABS) payment received from M/s Pioneer Overseas Corporation for using Indian rice varieties to develop hybrids. Rs 2.47 crore went to three research institutions – ICAR‑Indian Institute of Rice Research (Rs 2.43 crore) and Govind Ballabh Pant University (Rs 3.26 lakh) – for germplasm conservation and related activities. Rs 5.75 crore was allocated to 33 State Biodiversity Boards and Union Territory Biodiversity Councils based on rice‑growing area, with Uttar Pradesh receiving the highest share (over Rs 73 lakh). The funds will support seed collection, germplasm conservation, ecosystem restoration, documentation of traditional knowledge and farmer support, contributing to the Kunming‑Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and several SDGs.

The Ministry of Textiles, through the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) and the Handloom Export Promotion Council, will host the “GI & Beyond 2.0 Summit” on 5 August 2026 at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, reviewed the phased implementation of the Ujh Multipurpose Project (MPP) in Kathua district, J&K. The project, entrusted to WAPCOS Ltd. (Ministry of Jal Shakti), will generate 186‑212 MW of power, irrigate nearly 90,000 hectares across Kathua, Samba (J&K) and Pathankot, Gurdaspur (Punjab), and supply drinking and industrial water to Kathua. Implementation will commence while remaining land acquisition proceeds. The project is presented as strategically important for border‑management, aiming to curb unregulated water flows and infiltration routes, and is part of revived long‑pending water‑resource initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The fourth edition of the Tri‑Services Future Warfare Course will start on 3 August 2026 at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi. Conducted under the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and coordinated by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies, the four‑week programme brings together officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force together with representatives from government agencies, academia, industry and strategic think‑tanks. The curriculum spans geopolitical developments, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, cyber and cognitive warfare, information warfare, autonomous systems, future operations across land, maritime, air and space domains, grey‑zone and multi‑domain operations, and technology‑enabled warfare. Lectures will be delivered by senior military officers, policymakers, scientists, industry leaders and subject‑matter experts to foster a joint understanding of emerging operational challenges.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken enforcement action against several alcoholic beverage manufacturers for adding external identical flavours that mask the natural sensory profile of the product, thereby violating Regulation 5.1 of the Food Safety Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulation 2020 and Regulation 2.5 of the Food Safety Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) Regulation 2018. Laboratory tests found such products sub‑standard, and misleading age‑related claims (e.g., “7 years old blended”) were flagged as deceptive. While natural and nature‑identical flavourings are permissible, the addition of the same flavour as the base spirit (e.g., rum‑flavoured rum) lacks a legitimate technological justification and is prohibited. Prohibition of sale orders were issued to multiple firms, with conditional relaxations granted only after corrective labelling. The issue is limited to a few manufacturers and does not represent the entire industry.

The Ministry of Coal notes that coal supplies about 55 % of India’s primary energy and over 70 % of electricity generation. Domestic production crossed the 1 billion‑tonne mark for two consecutive years (FY 2024‑25: 1,047.52 MT; FY 2025‑26: 1,040.08 MT). Commercial coal mining was launched on 18 June 2020, allowing private participation and a revenue‑sharing model indexed to the National Coal Index. Since then, 141 mines have been auctioned in 14 rounds, with 123 awarded to private entities, yielding an average revenue share of 24.17 %. The Venture Capital Fund for Scheduled Castes (VCF‑SC) provided ₹5 crore in 2023 to Swarnakaruna Princeton Rubber Industries Private Limited, a rubber‑recycling venture founded by first‑generation SC entrepreneur Mrs Swarnalatha Nethipudi in Visakhapatnam. The firm operates an automated plant that recycles waste tyres into crumb‑rubber powder (10–40 mesh) with a capacity of about 6,000 metric tonnes per year. It has created 15 direct jobs (5 SC, 10 non‑SC), generated assets worth ₹8 crore, a net worth of ₹2.09 crore, revenue of ₹4.36 crore and profits of ₹4.60 crore, and secured additional funding from SIDBI. The project exemplifies circular‑economy practice and inclusive entrepreneurship under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
