The NHRC, India issues an Advisory on the ‘Protection of Human Rights of Female Inmates and their Children’

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued an advisory on the 'Protection of Human Rights of Female Inmates and their Children' addressed to nine Union Ministries, Chief Secretaries/Administrators, and Director Generals of Police of all States and Union Territories. The advisory emphasizes a sensitive, gender-responsive approach towards women prisoners and their children, highlighting ten key areas including custodial safeguards, maternal and child healthcare, legal aid, family contact, living conditions, rehabilitation, and social reintegration. The NHRC has requested an Action Taken Report on the implementation of these recommendations within two months.
