Quality Infrastructure, Clean Energy and Consumer Safety Take Centre Stage at the National Celebration of World Standards Day 2026
At the national celebration of World Standards Day 2026, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) unveiled several initiatives including the BIS Silver Refinery Scheme, new Indian Standards for emerging technologies, clean energy mobility, healthcare, and traditional medicine, alongside standardisation roadmaps for sustainable agriculture and manufacturing. The Silver Refinery Scheme extends structured purity assurance and hallmarking to silver bullion and coins across three purity grades (999.9, 999.5, and 999.0 parts per thousand). Additionally, BIS launched the BIS Digital Standard Reader for interactive access to standards, onboarded six new academic institutions into its standardisation framework, and released safety handbooks and educational comic books.
