Five Years of PM GatiShakti: Transforming India’s Infrastructure Planning
The Press Information Bureau backgrounder highlights five years of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP), which integrates ministries, states, and union territories onto a GIS-based platform for coordinated infrastructure planning. Launched on 13 October 2021, the initiative spans 58 Central Ministries and Departments and all 36 States and UTs. It is governed by a three-tier institutional framework—the Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS), Network Planning Group (NPG), and Technical Support Unit (TSU)—alongside recent additions like the Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority (ITLA) and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV). The platform leverages thousands of data layers to reduce project delays, minimize ecological impact, and optimize multi-modal connectivity across sectors such as roads, railways, ports, and renewable energy corridors.
