PRESS RELEASE ON the 382nd REPORT OF The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports on "Reforms and Strengthening of the National Testing Agency (NTA)"
The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, headed by Shri Mukul Wasnik, presented its 382nd Report on 'Reforms and Strengthening of the National Testing Agency (NTA)' to the Rajya Sabha on October 9, 2026. The report examines public examinations conducted by the NTA—such as JEE-Mains, NEET-UG, UGC-NET, and CUET—and highlights systemic issues including manpower shortages, paper security, reliance on private centers, and coaching culture. Key recommendations include building secure government-owned Computer-Based Testing (CBT) infrastructure, transitioning NEET-UG to CBT, establishing a National Registry of Blacklisted Vendors, creating an in-house cybersecurity team, ensuring permanent specialized cadres within the NTA, conducting annual equity audits, and refocusing the NTA's mandate primarily on higher education admission tests.
