Shri Rajiv Gauba calls for a shift to Light-Touch, Risk-Proportionate regulation at the 5th Kautilya Economic Conclave
Speaking at the 5th Kautilya Economic Conclave, Shri Rajiv Gauba, Member, NITI Aayog, highlighted the need for a shift to light-touch, risk-proportionate regulation to support innovation, competition, and investment amid rapid technological and geopolitical changes. He noted that modern business models cross traditional sectors, requiring cohesive regulatory oversight rather than fragmented frameworks. Emphasizing that national competitiveness depends on regulatory clarity, consistency, and predictability, he called for calibrated interventions, institutional accountability, enhanced state regulatory capacity, and inter-regulator coordination. He linked this approach to India's Viksit Bharat 2047 growth goals and the governance philosophy of Trust Based Governance (Jan Vishwas).
