India stands as the First Responder, Preferred Security Partner in the Indian Ocean Region: Shri Rajnath Singh
Addressing the second edition of the Indian Navy's Commanders' Conference 2026, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh highlighted India's role as the First Responder and Preferred Security Partner in the Indian Ocean Region. He noted that the presence of Indian warships in the South China Sea, Mediterranean, and Atlantic Ocean demonstrates the nation's blue-water force capability. Emphasizing the economic importance of secure sea lanes, he noted that India imports roughly 85–90 per cent of crude oil and around 50 per cent of natural gas via maritime routes, praising operations like 'Operation Urja Suraksha' for ensuring safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Furthermore, he highlighted indigenous warship production exceeding 75% local content, planned accretion of 18 warships in 2026, and the Navy's 'All Ranks, All Roles' approach toward women's empowerment.
