Ministry of Tribal Affairs and IGNCA Sign MoU for Preservation, Documentation and Promotion of Tribal Cultural Heritage
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) and the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on September 28, 2026, to preserve, document, digitise, research, and promote India's tribal cultural heritage. The partnership combines MoTA's tribal research ecosystem and network of Tribal Research Institutes with IGNCA's archival and research expertise. It aims to protect tangible and intangible heritage, including arts, music, languages, oral traditions, folklore, and traditional knowledge. Planned initiatives include establishing digital archives, state-of-the-art interactive museum galleries highlighting tribal freedom fighters, youth camps, and platforms for tribal scholars, artists, and traditional knowledge holders.
