Power from Waste
This PIB backgrounder highlights waste-to-energy initiatives under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, showcasing how organic waste is transformed into clean fuel, electricity, and organic fertilizer across various Indian locations. Key models include an educational trust in Gandhinagar eliminating LPG dependence through cattle dung and kitchen waste biogas plants; a multi-feedstock bio-CNG facility in Prayagraj processing wet waste, paddy straw, and cattle dung; a cattle-dung and fruit-waste compressed bio-gas (CBG) project at Adarsh Gaushala in Gwalior; and a vegetable-waste biogas plant at Bowenpally Market in Hyderabad generating electricity and biofuel while supporting women's employment. These initiatives emphasize resource recovery, circular economies, and sustainable urban waste management.
