From Waste Picking to Greater Financial Security
Assistance provided under the Swachhta Udyami Yojana (SUY) component of the NAMASTE scheme helped Shri Chevuri Anjaneyulu, a waste picker from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, improve his family's financial security and livelihood. Belonging to a Scheduled Tribe community, he faced financial hardship, social discrimination, and limited education access. On June 19, 2023, he and three other members received support for a group project through the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation. The project involved a total cost of Rs 35 lakh, split equally into a loan of Rs 17.5 lakh and an upfront capital subsidy of Rs 17.5 lakh. The initiative enabled him to earn about Rs 10,000 more per month and support his children's education at an English-medium private school.
