NHRC, India holds Statutory Full Commission Meeting in New Delhi
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India organized a Statutory Full Commission meeting in New Delhi involving representatives from all seven deemed member commissions. Chaired by Justice V. Ramasubramanian, the meeting aimed to foster synergy, collaboration, and minimize duplication of cases among national commissions for the protection of vulnerable and marginalized groups. Key issues discussed included the lack of rehabilitation for mentally ill women engaged in begging, social security and insurance coverage denials for persons with disabilities (PwDs), and child protection concerns. Various commission representatives shared updates on their portals, campaigns, and outreach initiatives, while proposing joint fact-finding, research, and coordinated investigations.
