India-New Zealand FTA to Enter into Force from 20 October 2026
The India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is scheduled to enter into force on 20th October 2026, following the completion of internal processes and legislation passed by the New Zealand Parliament. Initially signed on 27th April 2026, the agreement aims to operationalize the India-New Zealand Strategic Partnership and achieve the goal of doubling bilateral trade to NZ$7 billion by 2030. The FTA provides 100% duty-free access for Indian exports to New Zealand from day one, covering sectors like textiles, leather, footwear, and engineering goods, while safeguarding sensitive domestic agricultural products such as dairy and sugar. Additionally, the agreement entails commitments for USD 20 billion in investment into India, enhanced mobility for Indian students and skilled professionals, and regulatory cooperation in pharmaceuticals and agriculture.
