Silicon Dreams
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate SEMICON India 2026 at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka, highlighting India's expanding semiconductor ecosystem under the theme "Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem." India's semiconductor and electronics manufacturing sectors have seen significant growth, supported by the ₹76,000 crore Semicon 1.0 programme and the newly approved Semicon 2.0 with a ₹1,27,500 crore outlay spanning six pillars. Twelve semiconductor projects across six states have received approval with commitments exceeding ₹1.64 lakh crore, and three facilities have commenced commercial production. Additionally, initiatives like the Chips to Startup programme, Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme, and the ChipIN Centre at C-DAC aim to build a skilled talent pool of 85,000 engineers and foster chip design. Furthermore, India has formally joined the Pax Silica coalition to help secure the global silicon supply chain.
