Coal India Output and Dispatch Set to Accelerate as Monsoon Effect Wanes
The Ministry of Coal reports that Coal India Limited (CIL) output and dispatch are set to accelerate as the monsoon effect wanes across coal command regions. Despite prolonged rains in July and August, CIL supplied 322.90 million Tonnes (MT) of coal during April–August of the current fiscal, which is 6.70% higher than the previous year. With drier ground conditions emerging, mining operations, overburden removal, and coal transportation through Coal Handling Plants are picking up pace. CIL supplied 60.60 MT of coal in August, including 48.46 MT to the power sector, and holds a pithead stock cushion of 76 MT along with 46 MT of ready-to-mine exposure. To further augment supplies, CIL has offered power plants with Fuel Supply Agreements the option to lift additional quantities through road mode alongside rail.
