Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal Flag Off New Train Service From CSMT, Mumbai to Sawantwadi Road
Union Ministers flagged off a new daily train service between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai and Sawantwadi Road to improve rail connectivity across the Konkan region. Covering around 510 km with numerous stoppages in districts like Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, the service aims to benefit students, traders, tourists, and festival travellers, particularly during Ganesh Utsav. Officials noted that the project will aid freight movement, local producers, and tourism, while reducing migration pressures. Additionally, updates were provided on regional railway infrastructure initiatives, including Mumbai suburban capacity enhancements, electrification of the Konkan Railway route, Dedicated Freight Corridors, and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project.
