18th Meeting of Heads of IP Offices of BRICS Countries Held in New Delhi

The 18th Meeting of the Heads of Intellectual Property (IP) Offices of BRICS Countries was held in New Delhi from September 1 to 3, 2026, hosted by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (O/o CGPDTM), DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Around 35 delegates participated in virtual and physical formats, aligning deliberations with India’s BRICS Chairship theme, "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability". Key outcomes included adopting Updated Operational Guidelines, recognizing traditional knowledge and systems of medicine, reviewing progress on patent examination cooperation, and concluding deliberations on new initiatives such as the BRICS Intellectual Property Awareness Series and the IP BRICS FinTech Innovation Monitor.
