The Role of IIS Officers Goes Beyond Communication: They Are a Vital Link Between Governance and Citizens’ Aspirations, Building Trust through Accuracy, Credibility and Compassion: I&B Secretary

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) hosted a valedictory function and graduation ceremony for Group A Officer Trainees of the Indian Information Service (IIS) from the 2009, 2023, and 2024 batches. This marked the first time IIMC conferred postgraduate degrees—specifically the MA in Public Communication & Governance—on IIS Officer Trainees following its status as a Deemed to be University. During the event, the I&B Secretary emphasized that public communication is an integral part of governance, requiring officers to adapt to technological shifts such as artificial intelligence while combating misinformation, maintaining accuracy and credibility, and keeping citizen welfare at the center of their work.
