Union Health Ministry Reviews Progress Towards Achieving Malaria Elimination Target by 2030

The Union Health Ministry chaired a high-level review meeting to assess progress towards India's target of malaria elimination by 2030 under the National Health Mission. Officials reported nearly an 80% decline in malaria cases and deaths between 2015 and 2025, with high-burden districts dropping from 155 to 33, and 160 districts reporting zero indigenous cases during 2022–2025. The review focused on 33 high-burden districts across nine States and Union Territories. Key strategies emphasized during the meeting include targeted District and Village Action Plans, strengthening the 'Test, Treat and Track' mechanism, improving surveillance and data quality, and enhancing intersectoral convergence with rural, urban, and Panchayati Raj departments for vector control.
