From Sanitation Worker to Mechanised Sanitation Entrepreneur: NAMASTE-SUY Enables Himanshu to Build a Safer and Dignified Livelihood

This PIB release outlines the livelihood transformation of a 25-year-old sanitation worker, Himanshu, through financial assistance provided under the Swachhta Udyami Yojana (SUY) component of the NAMASTE Scheme. The assistance, disbursed in August 2025, supported the procurement of a tractor-cum-suction machine with a total project cost of Rs 10,70,400, including a loan and an upfront capital subsidy. The intervention enabled Himanshu to transition from unsafe manual labour under local contractors to running an independent mechanised sanitation enterprise, thereby securing improved monthly savings, safer working conditions, and enhanced social dignity.
