DELIVERY OF SAMARTHAK – THE FIRST INDIGENOUS MULTI-PURPOSE VESSEL OF INDIAN NAVY

The Ministry of Defence announced the delivery of 'Samarthak', the first indigenous Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV) of the Indian Navy, built by Larsen & Toubro Ltd. at Kattupalli. Delivered on August 27, 2026, the vessel features over 75 percent indigenous content. It is engineered to serve as a trial and evaluation platform, conduct maritime surveillance and reconnaissance, undertake offshore patrolling, and support Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. The delivery marks a significant milestone in India's indigenous shipbuilding journey and aligns with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and a self-sustaining domestic defence industrial ecosystem.
