From Financial Constraints to a Doctorate: How NFSC Support Empowered Vaishnavi’s Academic Journey

The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment highlights the success of the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC) Scheme through the academic journey of Vaishnavi, a scholar from Bengaluru. Facing severe financial constraints in funding her higher education, Vaishnavi received assistance under the NFSC Scheme starting in March 2022, which included a fellowship, House Rent Allowance, and contingency assistance totaling approximately ₹6 lakh. This financial support allowed her to overcome monetary barriers, focus on her research, successfully complete her Ph.D., and earn a doctorate degree while working toward her aspiration of becoming an agricultural scientist.
