Government Closely Monitoring Seasonal Influenza Trends Across the Country

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, along with DHR, ICMR, and NCDC, is monitoring seasonal influenza trends across India through a pan-India surveillance network. Officials stated that current influenza trends, including Influenza A (H1N1) viruses identified as A/Missouri/11/2025 (H1N1) pdm09-like viruses, show normal antigenic drift consistent with seasonal patterns observed since 2025, with no new or unusual virus strain detected. The illness remains largely self-limiting for healthy individuals, though vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children, individuals with co-morbidities, and those with compromised immunity face a higher risk of complications and are advised to exercise caution.
