CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories Unveils Indigenous Micro and Small Gas Turbine Engines, Boosting India’s Unmanned Defence Capabilities

CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) has unveiled three indigenous micro and small gas turbine engines: the NJ-05 (5 kg thrust), NJ-50 (50 kg thrust), and NJ-100 (100 kg thrust). Developed to support indigenous defence technologies, these compact propulsion systems are designed for tactical unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), drone interceptors, and compact missile systems. The project highlights advancements in high-RPM turbomachinery and high-temperature combustion technologies, marking a step toward technological self-reliance in aerospace engineering and supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat.
