Indian Railways Launches a Special Drive for Cleaning and Disinfection of Drinking Water Tanks and Filters
Indian Railways has launched a special cleanliness drive focusing on the cleaning and disinfection of drinking-water tanks and filtration systems across its network. The initiative forms part of a broader action plan to strengthen drinking-water quality management by emphasizing frequent inspection, maintenance, and water-quality testing at both the source and point of consumption. Zonal Railways are tasked with comprehensive inspections of water sources, treatment plants, storage tanks, and dispensing points, alongside repairing damaged infrastructure and preventing cross-connection. The plan also mandates physical, chemical, and bacteriological testing, daily residual-chlorine monitoring, and extending these hygiene measures to railway colonies and workplaces.
